denver144 Posted June 18, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 18, 2007 I know no one can predict the water levels on the Rhine and Moselle in the future, but what are one's thoughts about travelling in September of 2008. Would consider going in July of '08 but thought it would be cooler and less crowded in mid September. Thanks for your comments.
retiredslug Posted June 18, 2007 #2 Share Posted June 18, 2007 We agree--hopefully September will be less crowded and nicer weather but anytime we're in Europe, we're happy! And, shouldn't there be some local wine festivals at this time of the year? We are traveling on Amadeus this September from Budapest to Prague so we'll post our experience when we return. Next September we plan to book with Avalon Waterways once they announce their schedule. I have seen their preliminary schedule it--September should be an option. lsbauer Posted July 12, 2007 #3 Share Posted July 12, 2007 WE are booked on the GCT Bizet in September 2008. Since water levels are unpredictable we picked September based on the more predictable weather. Also we thought it might be less crowded. Rare steamboats Posted July 12, 2007 #4 Share Posted July 12, 2007 You should be quite fine in September. On the Rhine river there shouldn´t be too many problems with the water levels (except for real high water). The Moselle river is a bit more problematic. But September should be o.k.. Wine fests and warm, not too hot weather can be expected. steamboats ... it´s raining and 64°F over here, not what you usually expect in July but the forecast is up to 99°F by next week!!! StevefromOhio Posted July 26, 2007 #5 Share Posted July 26, 2007 We just returned from a trip on the Rhine and Moselle. 11 days of great weather. Lows ranged from 58 to 65 and highs from 68 to 80. The only large crowds were in Cologne. Pick a trip that stops in Düsseldorf on a week day if you are at all interested in shopping. Both rivers were up but we cleared all the low bridges on the Moselle. They did have you sit down and lower the wheel house for one bridge.
