tispwisp Posted August 15, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2004 Are cabins over a lounge/theatre/casino area loud? How about under the pool deck? We usually choose cabins where they are not over or under public decks. However, we are waitlisted for a balcony on our Sun Cruise and may end up with a balconied cabin with one of these options. Any comments or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!
spongerob Posted August 15, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 15, 2004 We had a balcony on Aloha on the Sea Princess. We had no problems with noise from the Lido deck. In general we have found that the noise isolation in any cabins we've had is quite good.
Doug&Nadine Posted August 16, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 16, 2004 A few years back we were on the Regal Princess(one of the oldest ships in the fleet) on the Aloha deck under the Cafe. We were awoke every morning around 5:00am by the shuffling of chairs by the staff that was mopping. I have seen posts by other CCers who have been disturbed by the movement of deck chairs by the deck hands in the morning. It probably depends on how light of a sleeper you are. I also beleive that the noise insulation on the newer ships is better. We were on a cruise once (Non Princess) when I heard my wife sneeze...She was in the closet area...I told her "God Bless You" ... She told me that she didn't sneeze...It was the person in the stateroom next to ours. Sometimes the walls can be a little thin!!!!
srphnx Posted August 18, 2004 #4 Share Posted August 18, 2004 A non-concern, we have been all over, noise is not a big factor, bring a fan for white noise. alaskabound3 Posted August 18, 2004 #5 Share Posted August 18, 2004 We were on the Aloha on the Sapphire, which is very new so I guess would have the latest sound proofing, very near the bow. The Lido was above us and we only heard some minor deck chair movements setup by the crew early each morning. We were more concerned about the exercise and Arobics (sp?) areas which were above the Lido but heard no sound.
Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted August 19, 2004 #6 Share Posted August 19, 2004 Alaskabound- Were you midship on the Aloha deck or more aft? We booked Aloha aft, under what appears to be the seating section for the Horizon Court. We were will to put up with some noise in exchange for the great location, but I still wonder just how much we'll hear.
kimba_99 Posted August 19, 2004 #7 Share Posted August 19, 2004 We were on Dolphin deck fwd on the Sun and only heard noise from the Princess Theatre twice and it was not overly loud, thumping or disturbing at all and only lasted 'til a little after 11pm... no problem for us at all. Cheers, Kim
Speechless Posted August 19, 2004 #8 Share Posted August 19, 2004 Last year, we were awoken on the Grand Princess each morning by the sound of collective thumping and rythmic shouting (not THAT KIND you filthy McNasty) - turns out we were directly below the aerobics gym. At first we thought it was going to be a nuisance, but it turns out 8 am each morning was the perfect time to wake up, and we welcomed it as our morning wake-up call. alaskabound3 Posted August 19, 2004 #9 Share Posted August 19, 2004 JMB410, We were in Sapphire Cabin 204 on the Aloha Deck which is 4 cabins away from the large suite very near the bow (front) of the ship on the Port (left) side. Suggest that you go to www.princess.com and look at deck plans which have details of where everything is on the ship. For us that was a great location. Even though the Lido Deck, which was above us, has lots of public areas, there where only cabins at the bow end. We were also very close to one of the perfect places to see the glaciers in Tracy Arms. Just had to go up two decks, out thru the outer door near the Spa, then was outside in the cool crisp air to get great videos of the two glaciers. It was also a short trip to get back to the cabin to warm back up and then go out again. Even though we were an almost three football fields distance from bow to stern from the Horizon Court that just meant we could walk off the food we ate. For the other dining rooms it was closer say 2 football fields away and down a lot of decks and later back up (we took the elevators then since we didn't want to overstrain ourselves with exercise - afterall we were on vacation).
