Cheapest San Diego hotel with shuttle?

What hotels would you recommend for San Diego? We need a shuttle from the airport, and it would be nice to have one to the cruiseport too.

We also want something near the zoo- as that's the only thing on our itenerary.

Right now Ramada Inn looks like the best deal.

Anyone have any other suggestions- or know specifically of hotels with shuttles (or close enough that the cab ride to the cruise would be cheap).

Airport can be seen from the port and vise versa. Hotwire had 4 star hotel Downtown Harbor Island for 125.00 plus tax, which turned out to be Sheraton Hotel and Marina. On Sheraton's site the room is 269.00 plus tax. There is shuttle to the hotel from the airport and a cab to the port would be cheap. We ended up getting 3 rooms for our cruise in October. San Diego is a great port to sail from.

If you want really cheap, I booked through Hotwire.com for the Holiday Inn Express at 7th and Ash in downtown S.D. for $59.00. It has a free airport shuttle and free shuttle to cruise port the next morning. Not bad!! It was a 2-1/2 star downtown-Harbor Island zone. There were a couple of bad reviews when it was Quality Inn, but now that it's been taken over by Holiday Inn Express, they say it's been totally redone. We were pleased.

If you want cheap, there are a number of motels along Pacific Coast Hwy. that would be really cheap (they probably rent rooms by the hour!!), and a cab from most of them would be less than $10, but I doubt if that is what you are looking for.....

Several hotels in Old Town (Courtyard, Holdiay Inn Express and some others). May not be the cheapest - but they had shuttle service from the airport, to the zoo, to Sea World, and to the port. They are within walking distance to Old Town, which has some good retaurants, and at Courtyard, they were happy to recommend good restaurants. We walked to Old Town and took their free guided walk - leaves at 10 am, allowing plenty of time to get to the port. (The guided walk was done by docents - we thought that Old Town was pretty touristy and tacky the evening before we did the tour.

You might save enough on transportation (esp. to the zoo) to make the hotels in this area reasonable.
