Anchorage auto day trip info needed

We will be in Anchorage for a day and a half in late June. We would like to use the half day to see Anchorage and are considering renting a car to do some independent sightseeing by driving part way towards Seward on our full day.

Any suggestions for must see sights? Also would like to do some non-guided fishing if possible.

Portage Glacier is right off the Seward Highway. You can visit the tourist center and hopefully see the glacier if it's clear enough. Also along the hwy is Alyeska Resort, in Girdwood, where Olympic gold medalist Tommy Moe trained.
