 We're also first timers on the river and are getting ready to book a 20 day Gate 1 tour with days in Warsaw and Krakow before cruising on Amadeus Symphone Budapest to Amsterdam March 11,2008. Has anyone cruised this early? Will weather be a problem? Also which catagory cabin do you recommend?

This is really quite early and usually the river cruise companies do stay on the Rhine river (Amsterdam roundtrips / Tulip Time) as this part is less affected by spring floods. The Danube river is more suffering from spring floods. And of course it can be quite cold (you still might have some snow). Spring floods were no issue this year as we had a warm and mild winter with nearly no snow (now we have a drought for the rest of the year). But you never know what´s next year. The river cruise season on the Danube river usually starts by the end of March/early April.
