Help! What is there to do in Panama with teenagers

We will be in Colon in Dec., and need to know what I do with with the teenagers in your group. Is there any excursions or actives that teenagers and adults will enjoy? We are pretty active group and sitting for hours will not work. Please help Sandy dee

Are you only going to Colon, or do you have the option to do a Canal transit by ferry or train?

 

What options is your ship giving you? How long are you there for? Are you (and the kids) interested in the mechanism of the Canal itself? Interested in indigenous peoples? Nature?

 

There's so much to do there, you should start with your shore excursion options, and read down this board's history for ideas. Then come back with specific questions based on your choices.

Well, the group appears to be more into nature and a little history. But all agree that it need to be interactive. Something they or we can do instead of just watch. Seeing of the native people might be nice but, there will be 3 teenage boys and 2 teenage girls.

We will be on Carnival and I believe the time frame is 7a-4p, docking in Colon. Carnival appears to offer large guide tours in buses or boats. Can anyone help Sandy dee

You might want to check out the Gamboa Resort, located on the canal in what used to be the U.S. canal zone. Its one hour from Colon by taxi. Its a luxury resort located in a nature preserve and very beautiful. However, they offer many types of activities, including an aerial tram, Indian village replica, wildlife and plant exhibits, guided historical hikes and nature walks, wildlife nature boat tours on Gatun Lake (canal), kayak tours, sport fishing, boat rentals, full spa facilities, nearby top golf course, restaurants, etc. And their prices are very reasonable. The cruise ships offer just their aerial tram for a much higher price, even when you take into account transportation to the resort. Website: gamboaresort.com

 

I received this price list from them by e-mail last month. Sorry, the chart did not print out with columns. The first price listed for each activity is the adult price and the third for children 6-12. No sure what the middle price is. Prices include tax. You can request reservations online at their website. I've e-mailed them questions a couple times, and they have responded by the next day. We plan to do activities there on our stop in Colon in March.
