gtouch Posted July 1, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 1, 2007 We are traveling with 6 in our group. 4 are past guest and 2 are not. Can they attend the past guest with us?
big_duck Posted July 1, 2007 #2 Share Posted July 1, 2007 Depends on who is at the door taking the invites. That being said, they should not attend. They are not past guests and therefore not entitled. The PG party is the only perk that pre-platinum guests have and should be kept just for them. Chigirlcruzin Posted July 1, 2007 #3 Share Posted July 1, 2007 Why should they get to go when they haven't "earned" the privilege? They will be able to go on their next cruise. Each person gets an invite in the cabin the night before, and they do collect the invites at the door. Now some will say that you can go to the purser's desk and ask for an invite, but if everybody did this, you'd have way too many people, and it's not fair to those that truly are PGs. It's only about an hour; I think they can find something else to do to entertain themselves:)
Sandi149 Posted July 1, 2007 #4 Share Posted July 1, 2007 We are traveling with 6 in our group. 4 are past guest and 2 are not. Can they attend the past guest with us? No. It is by invitation only and only the ones who are the pasts guests will receive the invitation. The party lasts about 45 minutes so I'm sure the other people in your party can find something else to do in that time period. :)

DancerOT Posted July 1, 2007 #7 Share Posted July 1, 2007 So on my upcoming cruise, I am traveling with my parents. I am the only one who has been on a Carnival cruise previously. So according to all of this, I have to go by myself without my parents if I choose to go? That just seems very unfriendly, not only to me but to my parents. Your parents haven't earned the right to attend. They can find something else to do for 45 minutes or so.
DancerOT Posted July 1, 2007 #9 Share Posted July 1, 2007 That just is not friendly. Who wants to go to something like that by themselves? When I cruised Princess with my parents and hadnt previously been on a Princess ship, I was allowed to go to their past guest party, same with Celebrity. It may be policy and I can respect them choosing to enforce a policy, but then they should enforce all policies (which from what I have read does not appear to be the case). IKE Posted July 1, 2007 #10 Share Posted July 1, 2007 Invitation Only is the Policy! If You cannot attend without your parents then you have the option to decline. If exceptions were made the whole ship would be attending. Then there would be no "Special Perks" for return Cruisers. IKE

Simple enough. I personally have skipped the PG party as I just don't see it as that big of a deal. However, I DO believe it should be limited to past guests ONLY. So according to all of this, I have to go by myself without my parents if I choose to go? That just seems very unfriendly, not only to me but to my parents. I'm doing the same thing in Oct. I'm the only one in my group that has cruised before. It's really not a big deal. It's an hour. If everybody brought the people in their group that have not been on Carnival before, what would be the point of the party?
Ms. Fun Bunch Posted July 1, 2007 #13 Share Posted July 1, 2007 I agree just don't attend. I enjoy having this perk as a past guest and so will your parents when they are actually past guests.:)
Sandi149 Posted July 1, 2007 #14 Share Posted July 1, 2007 And after only 1 cruise you get to go to the past guest party. :D
BlueJacketsFan1 Posted July 1, 2007 #15 Share Posted July 1, 2007 If the other two people are married to or dating a past guest I would see a problem with them going. If they are not traveling with a past guest then I would say that they should not go to the past guest party.

Cotton Posted July 1, 2007 #17 Share Posted July 1, 2007 ....Who wants to go to something like that by themselves? [\quote] Me, for one!:D I'm usually a solo cruiser, and I enjoy the PG parties. You'll find, as you grow more mature, that IF you have self confidence, being in a group of friendly strangers is not a big deal. I have fun wherever I go. A coupla years ago, a friend went on a cruise w/me, but I just skipped the party since she wasn't a past guest. Many time on here, folks have said their friends went to the casino while they attended the party. It's really not as big a deal as you're making it.. Chigirl's first reply about PG parties is the exact same phrasing I've used for a few years around here.;) I'm sure your parents wouldn't want to go somewhere they weren't invited, would they? There are many ways they can amuse themselves if you attend the party.

Cotton Posted July 1, 2007 #19 Share Posted July 1, 2007  Oh, I didn't mean it like that! I was just getting the point across about the PG party. Hey, friend, I've said it SO many dozens of times, it's bound to stick in other poster's minds. mikishel Posted July 1, 2007 #20 Share Posted July 1, 2007 Well our situation is different. DH and I went on our honeymoon cruise on the Carnivale back in ’81. Since then I have gone on two other Carnival cruises with friends but DH hasn’t cruised Carnival since. We’ve been on many other cruises on other lines together, however. Carnival doesn’t recognize past guests from that long ago, so DH is not considered a past guest. On our upcoming cruise with Carnival only I will get an invitation. Bummer……

If so, you can submit that to Carnival and they can add that to his list of past cruises and become an "official" past guest.

Cotton Posted July 1, 2007 #24 Share Posted July 1, 2007 Yep, dig out those old photos. What I did was send them copies of the boarding photo of each of my earlier cruises, starting w/the Festivale in '87. Can't dispute the boarding photo - because it always has the date of cruise, homeport, ship's name printed on the photo. ALL my cruises are now in their system, and I'm PLATINUM!:)
