Past Guest Party

That just is not friendly. Who wants to go to something like that by themselves? When I cruised Princess with my parents and hadnt previously been on a Princess ship, I was allowed to go to their past guest party, same with Celebrity. It may be policy and I can respect them choosing to enforce a policy, but then they should enforce all policies (which from what I have read does not appear to be the case).
Why on earth is it "not friendly"???? If they are not past guests and are not invited, why should you be surprised? It's a party for PAST GUESTS, not first time Carnival cruisers. I can understand if it's a husband/wife situation where one has been on Carnival and one has not. In that case, I would suggest you ask at the Info Desk if the spouse could also get an invitation. If not, then the other has the option of NOT going.

What exactly is the past guest party? I will be going on my second cruise next month so I assume we'd get this invite this time.

You'll get an invite if your upcoming cruise is 5 nights or longer. It doesn't matter if your first cruise was a 2 day CTN or a 14 night Med though. The party is similar to the Captain's Cocktail Party. It's more free drinks and appetizers. They play a DVD of the Carnival ships, and there's sometimes some Carnival trivia, dancing, etc. It last about an hour, and is a nice time.

I guess I am just used to other lines where they are willing to allow you to bring your fellow cabinmates. I find that this creates a welcoming environment from the staff. I will choose to not go because I feel that family vacations are just that, family vacations. Now out of pure curiosity, is Carnival as good at enforcing other rules like underage drinking and who is allowed in the casino or nightclubs?

Then don't go. Simple enough. I personally have skipped the PG party as I just don't see it as that big of a deal. However, I DO believe it should be limited to past guests ONLY.

We went to the past guest party after our first Carnival Cruise. Frankly, after going to it, we skipped it the next few times.

The reason was that it was kind of stupid to sit in the lounge where it was held, just to get a spiel about how great the captain and the ship was, and then to get some free drinks and some warmed over canapes.

Unless you have this burning desire for free alcoholic beverages and more mystery calories, there are many better ways to spend your time on the ship.

In fact, if you really do want your parents to go, come up to our cabin and we'll give you our passes for it. We won't even charge you.

Sheesh, from the posters here, you'd think this was some kind of invitation to have dinner with the POTUS or the Queen of England!!

Just because YOU don't like it, doesn't mean others won't. I went to it on my last cruise and thought it was really nice and when I cruise Carnival again, I will also attend.

We just got back from the Ecstasy with a group of 7. My 3 are all PG's and the other 4 were newbs. One of the 4 was 16 and EVERY time he tried to go in the casino with his 19yo brother and our 18yo he was asked kindly to leave within a minute of going in. My 18 tried to get a Carnival Special and was carded as soon as he got the words out. The 18 and 19 tried to go in the teen club with the 16yo, got carded, and were asked to leave. I saw that going on all over the ship, so evidently Carnival has been reading these boards and all of the complaints about underage gambling/drinking.

As far as the PG party we skipped it since our friends couldn't go, same as we did on our Sensation cruise when my mom couldn't go with us. Good news though is they all can attend the party on the next one. :)

I would love to have dinner with the President of the United States.

I was suppose to have dinner with the Prime Minister of Englad (Margret Thatcher) but it fell through.

Good. More room for all those who do enjoy the PG party!

Stupid? I believe most passengers really enjoy this party. It's interesting to hear about the captain, the ship, and also to see the very short film, "History of Carnival Ships". Many have never seen this, since it's their first PG party.

I happen to like the comp wine and a bite or two of hors d'oeuvres....as obviously do most who post here about the PG party.

Unless you have this burning desire for free alcoholic beverages and more mystery calories, there are many better ways to spend your time on the ship.

Your opinion, and by George, you should spend your time elsewhere if it makes you happy....but don't push your attitude on others who have not yet attended one of these parties.

Sheesh, from the posters here, you'd think this was some kind of invitation to have dinner with the POTUS or the Queen of England!!

C'mon. It's a little 45 minute party to thank guests for choosing Carnival again. It's something new and different to do. You have obviously cruised and traveled so much that you have become jaded to new and exciting things. Pity.

Bill, perhaps you can explain to me why you have 'angry' icons []when you talk of so many things about Carnival...?

You will receive the invitation in your cabin or mailbox, if your ship has those, sometime before the party.

No. It is by invitation only and only the ones who are the pasts guests will receive the invitation. The party lasts about 45 minutes so I'm sure the other people in your party can find something else to do in that time period. :)

Bah! What kind of exclusionary crap is this? What is a party without friends?

I am not saying open up the floodgates to every Tom, Dick, and Freddy :D out there, but if I am sailing with my sig. other who has never cruised before (this is my 9th), I should be able to bring her along as my date.

C'mon, this is Carnival. Leave the class separation (ok, admittedly a stretch, but still exclusionary) to the hoidy-toidy cruise lines.

And bonus points to whomever gets my title message.

No Cotton, the angry icons are not about Carnival. The angry icons are for those who post obviously stupid questions, or those who waste others time having private conversations (think "in jokes"). I'm not angry with Carnival in any way.

If you like the PG party, or the Captain's party, be my guest. As far as we are both concerned (Mrs. B never contributes - kind of like Penn and Teller) both parties, esp. the PG party is nothing more than another advertisement to promote Carnival. Rather than sitting in the auditorium on a nice day for almost an hour, we'd much rather be out on deck. And frankly, if we can afford a cruise, we can afford to either pay for our own drinks, or we have already smuggled enough hooch on board.

These are the rules. I don't make them up. I'm just telling you that it is what it is and if you don't have an invitation you probably won't be able to get in.

It's called a past guest party. It's not exclusionary. It's simple - past guest, you get to go. Not a past guest, you don't go. How hard is that? If you don't want to be separated from your SO for an hour, don't go. With so many repeat cruisers, the party is getting larger and larger. If everybody brought somebody, what would be the point of the party? On my Miracle cruise, the past guest party was more attended than the Captain's party (yes, I know there are 2 Captain's parties).

Oh, and I get your title:) Seriously, I think the chances are pretty high that you could go to the purser's desk and get your SO an invite.

although i dont think "crashing" the past gust party should be allowed, it would be nice if you were allowed to bring A guest. I am crusing for my 4th time with carnival and i am taking a non past guest with me. It would be nice if I was allowed to take her with me to the party.....

Is your Holiday cruise a four night or five night cruise? The PG parties are held only on five night or longer cruises.

The invitation has been left on the desk in the cabin on my Holiday cruises; no mailboxes.
