Princess is trying to bump me from E730 on CB to Dolphin deck

I sailed on the Golden. Had the same room (E730.)

I really liked the room. Back of ship and so it was quiet. Also it has a larger balcony then the rest of the Emerald deck. Also, you get a glimpse of the wake. Plus one less neighbor.

Yes--this is a large up-grade--just say Thank-you--I don't know what ship you said you were on--but much of the time your balcony with the mini on the Dilphin is larger--but open--I like the Dolphin Deck myself--cuz--I don't really care who can see me--and normally the sun isn't too strong when 'm on the balcony

Totally agree - This is not an upgrade as far as I am concerned. I booked this same cabin on Crown Princess. Larger wrap-around covered balcony. I always book a specific cabin on every cruise and I always specify "NO UPGRADES" on my reservation.

And they said they would take care of it and put me back in my nice little corner of the ship with the biggest balconys that a mini suite offers on the CB

Good choice! Going to the open Dophin deck to from the covered extended mini on Emerald is not an upgrade IMO. Keep E730.

BTW, how did you find out they upgraded you?

Actually they (mini's) on Dolphin are all the same size and not any bigger then Emerald unless it is an aft balcony. In this case it would be a downgrade. ;)

A large upgrade would be to a Suite ---Moving one deck up to the middle of the ship when I was in the back corner away from neighbors was actually a down grade to some of us ---

Go check out those rooms next time your on board no comparison

And I said no way and put me in a full fledged suite or put me back to my room ;)

The difference is that the mini suites on the aft of Emerald deck have covered balconies. The mini suites on Dolphin have exposed balconies. We always request the Emerald deck mini suites, as we like the privacy and the shade. It is merely a matter of preference. The size and layout of the mini suites has always seemed to be the same on Emerald aft and Dolphin decks. Also, some passengers prefer to be mid-ship, rather than aft.

Hummmmmmm, did you have your booking listed as no upgrade? This might have something to do with why they changed your cabin location. Always have it checked "no upgrade' if you really want the original cabin you booked.

Personally, I would take the midship cabin over this one anyday. Had one like it on the Star for almost a month and the Grand for a week, didn't really like it either time, too far away from everything.

Did you have the last cabin on Emerald deck with the wrap around balcony. No way I would trade this for any mini on Dolphin Deck. As far as being away from everything, aft cabins are closer to restaurants and buffet. What else is important?

Yes, we did, twice on two different ships. But, in defense of this cabin, we ran into a lot of wind which made this great balcony almost unusable for many days of each sailing.

I just look at it that I would rather have a balcony that was protected on both sides that I know I can use unless it's raining. Rather than have one that is protected on only one side that becomes totally unusable when it is windy. IMHO of coarse.

I think the reason they were trying to do this is because those minis on Emerald can accomodate a third and a fourth person. They room they tried to upgrade you to only take a third. They must have party of 4 they are trying to place.

I think this poster was referring to the Emerald Deck!

Anyhoo .......

We've had mini's on both the Dolphin deck and the Emerald deck AND both are great.

We did enjoy the privacy and larger size of the balcony of the last mini on the Emerald Deck - it was easy to get to a lot of venues, especially since we enjoy sitting in Skywalkers during the day watching the wake!

We just had a midship AA mini on the CB in April and it was great too as we also enjoy sitting in the sun - I'd take either one, but happy to hear that you got E730 back - great quiet location! Now, for the future you'll know to have NO UPGRADES placed on your booking for one of these Emerald Deck mini's. Isn't it great that we all learn so much from this board!

Happy sailing! :)

Since I dislike the back of the ship and don't like having a fully covered balcony the AA would be a big upgrade for me and if we book a mini we always book an AA or AB. I guess to each his own which is why it's great they have no many different categories.

Technically Princess was upgrading you to midship, it's just not something that you want. I always make sure that my reservation is marked No Upgrade because when I pick a cabin it's because that's the cabin that I want. Next time make sure to mark you cabin with No Upgrade so you won't face having this happen again.

Congrats on being moved back, you're very lucky that they were able to accomodate you.

I'm curious, how the average Joe is suppose to know to mark his reservation "No upgrade"? Shouldn't this be a standard question on an on-line booking form or something? Like...what is your dining preference? Would you except an upgrade? People just don't know you have to do this. I have never, ever been asked that question by any TA. Now I do know it due to these boards. Yet, shouldn't it be the other way around? By that I mean, if you WANT an upgrade, you must ask to note that on your reservation, not just get your cabin switched because you forgot to tell them to leave it alone. Makes no sense to me.:(

Everytime we have been offered an upgrade, out TA calls us and asked if we will accept the new cabin they are offering. If not, they leave us where we were.....so not sure why cabins are just getting switched out without the courtesy of a phone call, but there are 2-3 threads talking about this now....hope this is not the new policy!!
