Mendenhall Glacier Park or Mount Roberts Tramway

We have 2 tours scheduled in Juneau (glacier/dogs with Coastal and Harv & Marv whale tour) and only have from about 8am till 11am and about 7:30 till 10pm free. Will we have time to see either one? Which one is the "better/have to see" thing if we run short of time?

You should be able to do both, if you would like. We were only in port from 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and did whale watching with Orca Enterprises, then had them drop us off directly to Mendenhall Glacier, where we looked around the Visitor Center and took a short hike on the Photo Trail, all of which took about an hour, and then went back to town and took the Tram up to Mt. Roberts. We really loved the tram, but were glad we did Mendenhall too.

Having said that, taking the Mt. Roberts tram really depends on the weather. If you get into Juneau and it's foggy and/or rainy, paying for the tram would be a waste of money. So I wouldn't decide on that until you get there.

The other consideration is the hours of operation. I don't know that buses to Mendenhall or the Tram operate as late in the evening as you are talking about so you would have to check that out.

Yes, you can do both, consider taking a cab to Mendenhall and get a direct pick up from Coastal, or cab to Coastal direct, without returning to downtown.

Then if of interest, just take the tram when you return from the whale watch at 7:30pm

Is there anywhere to eat around there if we decide to do that?

Sounds good.

You should be able to do both--Sandy (MArv's father in law) who picks you up for the tour stops for about 30 minutes at Mendenhall on the way back from the tour--------the tramway is near the dock and is open early
