We stayed at the Langham and it was great. It is a little costly to eat there. There are a few restaurants nearby or you can take their shuttle downtown to find one.

Thanks. Is there anything in the immediate area to do or do I need to get a shuttle or taxi?

I believe that the Carleton is now known as The Rendevouz. Since I've never been to either, I should keep my big mouth shut, but our group of 6 has decided to stay at The Rendevouz. If you contact them directly, as we did you can get your room for $170 NZD rather than the $195 NZD published on their web site. That's just under $134 USD per night which we didn't think was bad. The Rendevouz web site is http://www.rendezvoushotels.com/auckland/
