walking tours like Viking in Europe?

We want to take a river tour from Amsterdam to Budapest 9/08 but don't want to visit towns in motorcoach. Viking is sthe only tour I've found that has mostly walking tours at ports. Any ideas of other cruise lines that offer walking tours? Thanks

terrya,

I don´t think that Viking differs in that point from any other of the major cruise lines on the European rivers. Let´s say in Regensburg or Passau where you´re docking right in the center of the downtown area it doesn´t make sense to offer a bus tour (and a bus won´t be able to tour most of the downtown areas anyway as streets are too narrow or pedestrian zones). Sure you need a bus to get to Salzburg. Also in Vienna the docking area is not close to downtown center (but only a couple of stops with the subway which is 5 min from the ship). It´s the same in Nuremberg where the canal is not located next to the downtown area. Budapest you´re definitely within a walking distance of many attractions but anyway the tour will be partly by bus as this is a big city.

To sum it up: In some cities you will have a motorcoach tour, in others it´ll be a walking tour right off the ship. Even a motorcoach tour doesn´t mean you´re on the bus all the time. Many tours stop to explore a special attraction.
