Does Celebrity let you take their wheelchair off the ship

Normally they do not. The wheelchairs are there to help with embarking and disembarking as well as emergencies (someone falls).

The wheelchairs are normally the big heavy industrial kind and they would be hard to push. If you really need a wheelchair in the ports, I suggest you rent one and have it delivered to your room or take your own with you.

do not know about X specifically, but most cruise lines no longer permit taking their wheelchairs off the ship except for embarking and disembarking when they are normally attended by a crew member to assist the process. There have been instances where the cruise lines have been sued by pax who had mishaps using ships wheelchairs ashore, so the liability aspect is the prime reason they no longer permit it. If you need a wheelchair, you should bring your own or rent one for the voyage.

We were able to take a Celebrity wheelchair off the ship but this was on a TA and they had a lot of them. I guess they figure that on the longer cruises there is more of a need. The chair, however was not one of their newer ones and did not push very easily. I think in the future we would bring our own or rent.
