becauseisaidso13 Posted May 12, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 12, 2004 NCL stops in Prince Rupert. It is rarely mentioned in depth if at all in tour books. What does one do there?? We are not bus tour people-I get bored. Thanks!!!!!!!!!
Yukon Posted May 12, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2004 Prince Rupert isn't a bus-tour town, but there's a lot to do. Have a look at my article as a start - http://www.explorenorth.com/library/communities/canada/princerupert.html The Museum of Northern British Columbia is highly recommended (for Native art in particular), it's a great town to just walk around, and the North Pacific Historic Fishing Village makes a great trip of 3-4 hours. grouchy Posted May 12, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 12, 2004 You can walk around town and see the native carvers, shops and good places to eat. Stop at The Crest Hotel and have a local brewed beer and some fish and ships. Time for another Cruise!

BSeaBob Posted May 12, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 12, 2004 There also was talk and I'm not sure of the standing of the project of a rail tour up the Skena River Valley and return. That should be interesting also if you haven't seen enough of the Coast and wildlife by then.

mommiemudd Posted May 13, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Grouchy-? for you: NCL offers a tour called Khutzeymateen Grizzly bear viewing by boat. It is pricey. $160 per person and last 6 hours. What is your opinion? We are the type that like to do organized tours but we did not know if this was worth the money. Would this be a waste of money and time? We will have a 3 year old with us and a husband with a bad knee. So we are limited with walking tours. Is there something else out there that would be better for us to do? grouchy Posted May 14, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 14, 2004 I think that you should take a chance and go see the bears. The problem with any wildlife is that they have a mind of their own and are unpredictable. You may see them or you may not-but you will have a boat ride through fabulous countryside and take some great pictures. It seems pricey-but you may only be there once-so do it! Time for another Cruise!

mommiemudd Posted May 18, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 18, 2004 Alaska cruisers should be getting back home soon. Anyone out there with feedback on NCL's shore excursions to Prince Rupert please post here! cpayne Posted May 18, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 18, 2004 We had researched a bear tour operator not through the cruise ship. We were told they only offer the bear tours through July. Apparently by August the bears have moved up North to follow the fish upstream. Was really disappointed because wanted to do this tour. Concerns me that the cruise ship is still offering this tour given that the bears have left for the season?! Just something to think about. Mommiemudd - see you on Aug 21. We're sailing with you! mommiemudd Posted May 18, 2004 #14 Share Posted May 18, 2004 Cheri, what other tours are you looking at? We have all our other stops planned but this one. Sometimes I wish we had chosen the Sun so that we could go to Victoria. But we have sailed on the Sun before and thought the Spirit would be fun. The bear tour was the one that interested us the most but we don't want to spend a lot of money and not see the bears! So, we are still trying to decide what to do.
