oahurose Posted July 26, 2007 #1 Share Posted July 26, 2007 We are going to be in New York towards the end of September. Taking a cruise ship from the Manhatten Pier. We are flying into LaGuardia. We'll be staying the weekend before and the weekend after the cruise. We hope to save a few bucks on hotel rooms. Manhatten hotels appear to be very expensive. We are considering staying out near the LaGuardia Airport, or Secaucus, or Jersey City. It looks like its about 11 miles from LGA to the pier and 7 miles from Secaucus to the pier. Does anyone have an opinion as to which area is a better alternate to Manhatten. Also, how easy is it to get to Manhatten, the sites, and a Yankee game from these locations? We'll be traveling with other people, I almost feel that we'd be better off biting the bullet and staying in Manhatten? I'm hoping priceline will save us! Yes, you'll be much better off biting the bullet and staying in Manhattan if that is where you will be spending the majority of your time. Keep in mind that your dates are peak season and now even during peak season Jersey City hotels aren't really enough of a bargain to justify staying there. Check Apple Core Hotels, The Milford Plaza, and The Pod Hotel for decent rates. Last September the average daily rate (ADR) for Manhattan hotels was over $300. Expect that price to go up. Betsy's Mom Posted July 27, 2007 #3 Share Posted July 27, 2007 Hotel in Manhattan are very tight for September. I book about a year ahead to get what we want nd a good rate. Nail something down and then try the bidding sites. Good luck! B.
willysgrandma Posted July 29, 2007 #4 Share Posted July 29, 2007 I second the Pod Hotel if you are on a budget, but their rooms go quickly - they may not have availability at this late date. It is very easy to get to Yankee Stadium from Times Square on the subways.
Rare Keith1010 Posted July 29, 2007 #5 Share Posted July 29, 2007 Don't stay at LGA. There is nothing to do around there. While September is a busy time in Manhatten for tourism, looks at the varous web sites to find a hotel in the city. You can walk to so many things so you'll save on transportation and you'll have the convenince of being downtown. It is easy to get to the stadium on the subway. Name game Posted July 29, 2007 #6 Share Posted July 29, 2007 http://www.unionsquareinn.com/ The Union Square Inn is another budget hotel in Manhattan in such a great neighborhood and so close to the subways. Why doesn't anybody want to see the Mets? I just don't get it.
