Stolen Items While On Board?

I think Kurbanfan (and myself) we only talking about sharing between spouses. When I posted, I meant I see nothing wrong with me finishing my husband's soda as opposed to throwing it away. I don't drink enough soda to make a soda card worth the money (my husband doesn't either), maybe two a day between us. That is why I usually just buy the one's in the cabin.

Same with food. My husband paid for his "share" of the food, however, if I want a bite of his steak, is this stealing?

On a side note, not all people are greatful to have things returned. When I was young, I checked out a book from the public library called Vagabond Summer. I found a $100 bill and a $1 dollar bill in the book. I asked my mother to take me back to the library to return the money. The librarian called the previous renter, she came to the library (I was still there, checking out more books). The elderly lady did not even say "Thank you". My mother thought she should have at least given me the dollar for my honesty. Oh well, it was the right thing to do and a story I have shared with my own children.

Ok, back to the insipid point of view that taking booze on board is stealing..... Ok, I'll bite. So in that same vein of thought, if I take a photograph of anything, (friends and Family, GF, people at the table at dinner etc) a ship photogopher can take, thus not buying his product, I am stealing? Taking your own Pics or your own booze it is all the same, and NONE of it is stealing!

I lock up the cell phone (can't use it anyway) and the camera when not in the cabin. If it is something that won't fit in the safe, then I make sure it is "buried" in the back of my closet behind things so it would take awhile to find it. Sometimes the room steward leaves the door open to go get something off his cart and maybe will be distracted (either on purpose or not), have his back turned and someone can slip in and get what they want if it is out in plain sight. On some cruises, they have asked you to leave the door open when you vacate the cabin at the end of the cruise. I don't do that either because anyone could duck in there and help themselves to the mini-bar, the robe or whatever else they may want. I put the "make up my room" sign out instead and close the door.

On the other topic of people not turning in lost items that are truly forgotten somewhere. I think those people feel they are entitled to the item they have found because "losers, weepers, finders keepers" is their *****. They may even have made an "effort" to find its owner by asking people nearby if it is theirs. Of course, the reason they asked them may be because they don't want to take it if it belongs to them cause they will get caught (lol).

Okaaaaay, I'll just avoid the soda card debate and throw in my 2 cents worth on missing items. Last year on the Victory, DH dropped his digital camera (no alcohol involved, honest! :D ). We went to the purser's desk less than an hour later, and some kind, honest soul had turned it in. We were so happy! But on our last cruise this year, I left my $10 sunglasses in the casino, and they were gone for good. So I guess we're doing pretty good overall...Hopefully no lost items on the next one...

I left a bag of with my camera (35 mm) on the tender boat going to our shore excursion when we were on the Victory in the Cayman Islands. I didn't realize my husband didn't have until I was in the bus on our way to the excursion. I was filming with the movie camera and I thought my husband had the bag. Someone saw it and turned it in to a Victory employee. I figured I would never see it again. They took the camera to their photo shop and developed the film. They used to to try to identify who owned the camera. We had pictures of the view off our balcony and they used that to figure out which room it was. When we got back to the ship, when we were coming through security, the guy checking ID's pulled us aside and asked if we had lost anything? We went to the purser's office and they had the bag with the camera. Everything was there including a bunch of cash I had stashed in the camera bag and forgot about. They even put a new roll of film in it for me. It was our first Carnival experience and it sold us on Carnival.
