Excess OBC - getting cash back

cs

Recommended Posts

I started purchasing some OBC for myself when I have some extra money so I'm not tempted to spend it elsewhere. I thought I read somewhere that I could take cash out at the casino if I had left over credit or if I wanted more cash to spend in port. Is that correct?

Also, is the OBC limited in what I can use it for? Can I use it for tips & casino too?

I just want to make sure before I buy anymore that it's a good idea. Thanks for the help.

YOu can get money out at the cashiers window in the casino, no cash advance fee or service fee etc. So this also works well if you need cash anyways, instead of using the ATM on the ship, which will charge you the service fee, plus your bank may charge one too.

And yes, you can use the OBC for any purchase on the sthip, including tips, it all charges to the Seapass account.

Thanks. So how do I do it? Go to the cashiers window ask to take cash out of my Seapass account? Or get some type of voucher to insert into the slot machines and then return to the cashier to cash in the voucher?

Thanks again.

All you need to do is go to the cashier's window in the casino and ask for a specific amount of money. They will take it out of your seapass account. I think the limit is $2000 per day. Not that I would ever have that much to take out but who knows.

If you are getting cash from the casino, please pretend like you are going to use it to gamble so they won't stop us from doing this.

You can also put your shore excursions on your SeaPass card, which will eat up that OBC really fast!

Constantcruiser, if you have to cancel a cruise, why don't you just move your booking # to something else in the far future, just to hang on to that OBC?

On our last cruise we had $100 OBC and we didn't use it all, even with me getting cash from the casino. We had about $1.24 or something left on it, and the next cc statement DH got had a credit for that amount on it! How weird is that????

Thanks for the suggestion about rebooking a cruise using the same reservation # so we could keep the OBC. But I was thinking more in terms of OBC that I give family members as gifts -- for cruises where they're not even taking me with them! How generous am I?? It's just such a simple and welcome gift, and RCI will fax you a confirmation so that you have something tangible to wrap. But I always wondered what would happen if they had to cancel the cruise after I had given them OBC. I'm sure someone here on CC will have the answer.

Honestly, I dont know if you need to pretend like you are going ot use it in the casino. Royal wouldnt care what you did with the money after they give it to you, it still goes to them, regardless if you used it in the casino or not. Ie if you ask for 100 bux, they charged your seapass card 100 bux, granted you didnt stick it right back into the slots, but Royal still just made 100 bux off of you, so it is still a "sale" in their eyes.

You can also go to the Purser's desk and say you want to take your credit on your seaspass card out as cash. (can do all or some)

Any remaining credit at the end of the cruise will go back to your card anyway. :)

A lot of cruisers have OBC they got from their TAs as well as other OBC, not just OBC they purchased for themselves to spend.

There is the up to $200 OBC from booking onboard, $100 if you own stock in RCI too. I keep running into folks who have $600 OBC they need to spend. sweet, but still not everyone spends it all.

My FIL does this for each cruise we take. However, we were told by C & A that if we don't use all of the $, RCI would keep it. Use it or lose it, is what we were told. So, we check our account at the end of the cruise and what ever is left take out in the casino.

I am new to RCI and I have a few questions re: onboard credit. I was planning to do this also, buy onboard credits before our cruise. This is done by buying gift certificates? (We booked thru TA) I bought one as a Xmas present last year for my family and the small print says they need to be redeemed 10 days before the cruise - okay. Also says it "cannot be used for fees, taxes, gratuities, games of chance or similar activities". I was going to call RCI to clarify this. Am I on the same page here?

My onboard expenses usually include bingo, drinks, gratuities, excursions, gift shop, etc.

You don't have to pretend -- RCCL tells you to do this instead of using the ATM's on their web site :) Also, the limit is $1000 per day.

Wow, I just read that too. So if they're saying that you can't use it for games of chance then how could you take money out of it at the casino? Uh oh, I hope that's not true.

If you contact them can you let me know what they said. Thanks.

Maybe I did it wrong, it was my first time :) , but I went to the cashier and requested money from my card. She told me I had to actually go to a table and sit then get the pit boss to get me money. He did, but it was a little more intimidating and made me feel like I had to sit and play for a while.

On NCL, we played slots. You went to the cashier and got a voucher to put in the machine. When you were done, if there was anything left on the voucher, you could return to the cashier and get cash back. Is this how it works on RCCL too?

Had a $1.50 OBC credit left, RCCL credited my bank, 5 days after the cruise with full amount?

I always get cash at the casino's window to continue gambling. Also, I usually get some extra cash from there to use in port, as I don't want to use my charge card for small expenditures. I have never had trouble getting cash from the casino window! I hope they don't change this practice! Unfortunately, I never have anything left over!

Also, how do you go about pre-paying for OBC? I really should do this! LOL!

Re: prepaying gratutities....just let your T/A know you want to do that and they will set it up with Royal Caribbean by using your credit card...simple.......**update** read that wrong...thought you were talking about gratutities....as for OBC....you call this number here,...tell them you'd like to order OBC for this booking #......and they'll give ya as much OBC as you'd like---->1-800-722-5443

on this same topic...it's come up before on here about a "trick" some people do.....They take out like the max amount of money they're allowed every day....then when they get home, they put it in the bank for when their credit card bill comes in............so you say..."why the heck would I do that ??? " Well, the credit card these people use for their OBC is a *rewards cards*.....like airlines miles...cash back ...etc.....so at the end of the week you potentially took out $10,000, and how many airline miles would you gain for that????????

This is not true. DH and I were just on Majesty of the Seas less than a month ago and wanted to take out cash at the casino against our sea pass cards so that we would get the points on our RCCL visa card, with the intention of just depositing the cash back into our bank accounts after we got off the cruise. However, when we took out the limit, they did not let us get cash, they gave it to us in chips and when we came back to the cashier with all of our chips with the intension to cash it out, they only credited it back to our sea pass account. No scam allowed. They specifically asked us what we were going to do with it.

I've been on alot of RCCL cruises....I have not personally done what I described above, but by the same token, I've taken money out (cash for slots) as well as chips....not once has a cashier asked me what I'm doing with my money...and not once have I received a "credit" back instead...I turn in whatever amount of chips...I get cash...no questions....not to say some cashier may have a different way of doing business you might say...*or* RCCL has changed fleet wide since my last cruise
