mckinna Posted September 4, 2007 #8 Share Posted September 4, 2007 nail clippers/emory boardband aids the headache remedy of your choice small sewing kit I was thinking the exact same things! A few more: Medicines: Immodium Pepto Bismol Rolaids, large bottle Ibuprofen/Tylenol lip balm/chapstick Things that cost too much in the sundry store on board: Lots of sunscreen Aloe vera gel- sunburn gel Someone else listed air freshener- this is a must, also! My husband has fussed about all the things that I pack- I usually put them all in ziplock bags, and sometimes go through a box of bags while packing. However, as soon as one of the kids gets a cut, or he gets an upset stomach, he is glad I brought all the stuff!
peachesandherb Posted September 4, 2007 #9 Share Posted September 4, 2007 I take Bonine 2 days before I sail and 1 a day during cruise (at night so that I am not drowsy during the day). So far I have never been seasick - 5 cruises to date. Let's hope that this stays the case, we are cruising on the Gem for the December 3 crossing to Boston:rolleyes: Peaches and Herb

Happy ks Posted September 4, 2007 #15 Share Posted September 4, 2007 I keep a packed toiletry bag all the time, we don't travel often, perhaps 2-4 weekends a year and a cruise. You need everything you need whether it is overnight or a 2 week trip. The toiletry kit is always the most time consuming and many times we would forget one thing that was crucial. So, we have doubles of everything we use on a daily basis so it is already packed all the time. The liquid stuff is travel sized, I just refill those bottles before travel day. Other than your toiletry bag, all you really need is your clothes, a small first aid kit, a camera and most importantly your travel documents. All the other gadgets and things are just space and weight, we all have to decide what we cannot live without for a week or so. Just don't take the packing lists you see so often on here too seriously. If you have to ask what it is used for, you don't need it. If you hadn't thought of it yourself, you probably will not use it.
Sugar*Magnolia Posted September 4, 2007 #16 Share Posted September 4, 2007 How bout all your electronics::::::::::; laptops, iPods, multiple cameras, ice skates, roller blades if you blade, your snorkel-stuff, goggles, good all terrain wet/dry sandals, AND A POWER STRIP!! I guess what you tote also depends on the length of your sail and if you fly to the port or drive. You will need to charge your digital camera batteries (if you use rechargables), and over the door shoe bag to organize ALL your stuff so it doesnt lay all over your cabin and then you cant locate it. Yes, as someone mentioned, bring Bonine (no need to premedicate 2 days prior, that is useless but will not cause harm) JMHO- $20.00 in dollar bills will not last more than a day, maybe a day and half. BEACH TOWELS, we like our own, but truthfully, it is last on the list. If you love your hair, do NOT forget your own products. I know some on the boards ask if the rooms have shampoo and "stuff", but again, just opinion on this one- suggestion; bring your own. Cant fathom why some think it is part of their cost to cruise and the cruiseline should supply  MAPS of the islands you're hitting (free- print them from your home pc) MAP of the Ship you are sailing on-deck by deck, it can help some that need it, navigate around a larger ship faster without having to "explore". I might even bring my own stemless martini glass next time!! Easier to walk with! lol Great list- it can go on forever :)

Robkatcruisers Posted September 4, 2007 #18 Share Posted September 4, 2007 I went through what is on this thread with what I had on my list that I started compiling in a very boring work meeting and I had to add a few things.... I have a question though...My DH claims he cannot sleep without a fan....(yes I hate it, it makes me cough to have a fan in my face all night) can a fan be brought onto the ship? slickproductions Posted September 5, 2007 #22 Share Posted September 5, 2007 Power strip or 2. A must since plugs are such a commodity. If you have an inside cabin - night light (Air Wick ones work great, give you both the room freshener and the light at night --- and an alarm clock. No sun to wake you so you need some sort of reference. Binder clips for the bottom of the shower curtain (if you feel it gets intimate)
gadiamondgal Posted September 5, 2007 #23 Share Posted September 5, 2007 Clothespins to hang wet suits up to dry on the clothes line provided in shower. I also use them to pinch curtains together - just in case I want to sleep in or take a nap! And Clorox wipes - I wipe down every surface as soon as we get in the cabin, including the phone and cabin door handles. I also take Lysol spray and spray all the carpets, sofa, chairs and the all the bathroom surfaces. I use the wipes at least once a day on door handles into/out of the cabin. This makes me want to go on a cruise!
