Celebrity is a great choice.

DW and I are holding out for Solstice (when it can be just the two of us).

In the mean time, when we travel with kids, we look for a well priced Voyager or Freedom Class that we can drive to then we look for Carnival, then NCL.

Our best couples vacation was on the Century (we were mid 30's when we did it). The best family cruise was the Mariner.

I have a dilemma, I hope some members can help me with this decision.

My fiance and I have cruised 5 times on Carnival in as many years. We have had a great time on each one of these cruises. Now that we are a bit (just a bit) older (him 33, her 28) we are looking for something that is still a party but with a better class of passenger. The last Carnival cruise we were on left us feeling like we had been on a vacation in Detroit. We have come to realize that "formal nights" on carnival can mean anything from jeans and an old tee to a tux. What is missing in some peoples interpretation of "formal night" will probably continue to baffle me for the rest of my life.

I have heard from people that have sailed on RCL, Holland America, Princess, Cunard, etc.... But no one has put in their two cents about Celebrity. The price seems right and the Celebrity Century that has just been refurbished in June is a very tempting option for us.

I would love to hear some opinions on this question and/or hear from some members that have used both lines and can compare them.

Thanks & Happy Cruising!

I have taken four cruises on Carnival and two on Celebrity cruise lines. Carnival makes announcements for everything. Celebrity does not. On Celebrity you look up on the ship's paper what you wish to do and you do it.

The rooms on Carnival are more spacious. Carnival is known through the industry for having the largest staterooms. Celebrity has nice staterooms though.

Carnival food is slightly better than Celebrity food. Carnival chef's are very imaginative and they do all kinds of things with food. Carnival has a 24-hour resturant, Celebrity does not. Not to say Celebrity has bad food. Celebrity has very good food. However, I think Carnival does it better, but, only slightly.

Where Celebrity excels at is their service. No one could beat them for service. They make you feel like a VIP. The room service from Celebrity is faster than on any other line I have been on. I've been on five cruise lines.

Carnival has more activities than Celebrity. On Celebrity there are no knobby knee, or hairy chest contests. They both have bingo games and casinos.

If you want a quieter time then try Celebrity. Want more action then go with Carnival. I regularly sail on both lines. You can't go wrong with either one.

I think the next step for you to try would be Royal carib-- more lively than Celeb but good value for the money..

If this poster is looking for no jeans in the restaurant then definitely not them. ;)

Not exactly sure what the "Detroit" remark is supposed to mean, seems like a rather vague and very negative generalization. I am not sure I would want someone who thought that way on a cruise with me.

I think you could substitude the name of any major city in the US and come up with what the OP means-people just do not dress up for anything anymore -not even weddings and funnerals. It wasn't a dig against Detroit but just the way americans think for the most part.

to the OP, you will see less of the blue jeans and T shirts thingie on the Century but I have read it even happens on Celebrity,( although it did not on the one Celebrity cruise I have taken so far), but it is rare on Celebrity compared to Carnival.
