swooldri Posted September 10, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 10, 2007 Our Princess ship arrives in Southampton at 5AM (on a Thursday). What are the odds of us making a 12:30PM flight departure from Gatwick? Thanks in advance. Steve
Len3 Posted September 10, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 10, 2007 It's my understanding that the train ride itself is about 2 hours. Keep in mind that the ship will have to clear UK customs before anyone can disembark, then you'll need to take a cab from the ship terminal to the train station, the trains seem to run about every hour and you'll need to check-in at Gatwick 2 hours prior to your flight. I certainly could be wrong with the timing, but that's the schedule that we'll be working with until we hear otherwise. It might be cutting this a bit close. sunandsalt Posted September 11, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 11, 2007 We have a flight leaving LGW at 11:20 am in June. J.O.S. also docks at 5 AM. We booked a private car for our party of 4. Was told it should be no problem to make that flight.

Steve I called the cruise line and they said you could not make it on any flight before 1PM and that was going to be hard. Said plan on 3 hours at airport, security is much stronger than in the US. We are staying over and flying out the next day. Less STRESS!
BlueVinney Posted October 18, 2007 #5 Share Posted October 18, 2007 Direct trains for Gatwick leave Southampton Central station at 07:06, 08:20, 09:20 and every following hour until evening. The first 3 arrive at 09:26, 10:24, 11:24 and then hourly until evening. You should check with the cruise line for an estimate of time for disembarkation and with the airline for how long you will need to check in before departure. Central Station is about a 5-15 minute taxi ride from the cruise terminals depending on traffic levels. Roads in the 7:00 - 10:00 time frame roads can become very congested and journey time much increased. This applies particularly to the M25, the motorway which gives would normally give the fastest journey from Southampton to LGW. As jms2362 says, a lower-stress suggestion would be either a later flight or an extra day in the UK if you have the time.
