Boarding from Excursions?

This is our first cruise. We are just wondering when we get off of the ship what all papers do we need to get back on? Can we get on and off of the ship at anytime? If we go snorkeling and then want to change cloth before we go eat can we get back on and get to our room to get dry clothes? We are just going to snorkel on our own at the beach.

You will need your SEA PASS to get off and on the ship. It is the card that is issued to you when you first board, it is 'tied" to your credit card so you can make purchases onboard (drinks, BINGO, etc.), usually it is also your cabin door key. It has a photo of you embedded in it, although you can't see it, but when you put it in the little machine every time you get off and back on the ship, security compares your face to the photo embedded on your SEA PASS.

Yes, you can get off and on the ship as often as you like from each port. It is very simple to do unless you are in a port (such as Grand Caymen) when the ship does not tie up to the pier, but rather you have to tender. You can still get off and back on, but you will have to take that small boat back and forth to shore each time.

Have a great cruise.

Depending on where you are going, but most would require your key card/sail and sign card from the cruise ship plus a photo ID.

And yes, of course you can go back to the ship and change before going out again for food. As long as you don't mind walking back and forth and you have enough time to do that.

The ship will tell you exactly what kind of documentation you should take with you.

Do come back early on one of your port days, just to sample the relative solitude. You many find, as many do, that being onboard during a port day is one of the best parts of cruising.

Coming back to change clothes before eating sounds like a great idea . . in theory. We have found that that process takes too long, so if we are going to do something after snorkeling we always bring along clothes that we wear over our swimsuits. Some beaches have places to change clothes, but we have never done that. Island time passes quickly, and we want to enjoy every minute there!

Have fun on your first cruise. You will be hooked!

Now why did you have to go and mention that?

That was one of the better-kept secrets, around here!

Also before you leave there is a sign that tells you when you have to be back on board or when the last tender is. Don't be late or you are responsible to get to the next port on your own (the ship will wait for ship excursions but if you go on your own they do leave without you).

A small warning here one of you keep ships time on your watch while the other can put their watch to local time if you want. It is not always the same.
