Rare Kinkacruiser Posted September 14, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2007 Does anyone know why Dunedin has been taken off the itinerary for the Sun Princess cruises to New Zealand for the 07/08 summer season? Might there be competition for space at the docks? Just curious. Cheers all, Kinkacruiser

Rare Kinkacruiser Posted September 15, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted September 15, 2007 Thanks for that mipps. My itinerary is definitely changed, but it could be a blunder. Best to contact the cruise company. I would hate to miss out on the much anticipated sightseeing tours in Dunedin. I'll let you know if I learn anything. Bye. Kiwi Kruzer Posted September 15, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2007 This was also mentioned on the P&O Australia board. The only thing I could find is that some cruises were advertised as a fly cruise Sydney/ChCH and ChCh/Sydney, but I cant see them any more on the P&O web page. If they are doing this, they may need an extra day in Chch to transfer everyone and to fit in with flight schedules. Do keep us posted as to what is going on, as this is the first time they have split the Au/Nz cruise into 2 shorter segments.
Rare Kinkacruiser Posted September 15, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted September 15, 2007 That seems a likely explanation, Kiwicruiser. I have emailed P&O to clarify the changes. The travel agent may also know something. Seems a bit rude that we had to find out upon logging onto our cruise personalisers. Yes, I will definitely let you know if others haven't found out before me. Thanks for answering. Kinkacruiser.
Spikesgirl Posted September 16, 2007 #6 Share Posted September 16, 2007 Princess often changes ports on cruises - I always thought it was to keep people who had previously cruised the region interested by offering different venues to see, while keeping some of the old ones. In the British Isle cruise, they alternate the Orkneys with another port every season. It could also be that it's cost prohibitive to dock there or it may be the port with the consistently lowest score on the comment cards. Personally, it was one of our favorite stops when we did the Princess NZ/AUS cruise. Like I said, just my thoughts Charlie
Rare Kinkacruiser Posted September 16, 2007 Author #7 Share Posted September 16, 2007 I'm hoping it's a mistake as I am looking forward to Dunedin and it's unique attractions. Thanks for your input, Spikesgirl. All the best, Kinkacruiser

Kiwi Kruzer Posted September 17, 2007 #9 Share Posted September 17, 2007 i could not see dunedin getting any bad reports.there is just so much to see and do there. I feel sad for the cruisers who may miss this port Dunedin is a great port.It would be sad to miss it,although I think 1 ship missed it last season.I think it was Sapphire because of strong winds which hampered her manouvering in the long channel that leads up to the port. Kinkacruiser, Does your itinerary have 2 nights in Christchurch to replace Dunedin.?
Rare Kinkacruiser Posted September 17, 2007 Author #10 Share Posted September 17, 2007 Yes, Kiwicruiser, two days in Christchurch. I'm still trying to get some official word on this change, as mistakes can be made. I would accept bad weather as an excuse to bypass Dunedin, but it was on the cruise we purchased after all. Cheers, Kinkacruiser
Rare Kinkacruiser Posted September 18, 2007 Author #11 Share Posted September 18, 2007 Dunedin is back in the itinerary folks. This was an input error on some of the cruise personalisers and hopefully it will be fixed soon. We can all breathe easier now knowing we won't miss any of our greatly anticipated Dunedin sights and experiences. Cheers, Kinkacruiser
