spate Posted September 19, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2007 We will be arriving at 6:25 am. Can anyone offer some advice on where to stay close to the ship on a day pass. Thx
Toto2Kansas Posted September 19, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 19, 2007 Did you book Princess air or independently? Reason for asking is that Princess normally takes the early arriving passengers to the Sheraton to await the bus transfer when they can embark the ship. They do not supply a room but everyone waits in the lobby for the bus. And OH MY did most of them look tired. :( Also, keep in mind, it can take a couple of hours to get through immigration in Tahiti, at least that is what it took for us. They weren't too speedy and really took their time about it.
rberne1 Posted September 19, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 19, 2007 I don't think there are any day passes over there ... none that I had heard of anyway. You might want to call/contact the Sheraton Tahiti and ask. We stayed there prior and after the cruise and it was nice enough and is the closest hotel resort there is to the port. The grounds are nice and they had a pretty decent breakfast buffet as well. Check out their website. This is an excellent cruise ... you're in for a great time! :D
spate Posted September 19, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted September 19, 2007 We booked Princess air but not transfers. We want to use the pool/beach facilities of the hotel and wait later in the day before boarding.
Toto2Kansas Posted September 19, 2007 #5 Share Posted September 19, 2007 FYI-When it comes to beaches in Papeete, there really aren't any to speak of that we have ever seen in 5 cruises and pre-night stays there. Most hotels have nice pools, but little access to a beach. Other islands have some great beaches, but not Papeete.
jacketwatch Posted September 19, 2007 #6 Share Posted September 19, 2007 last yr. we got a day room at the Sheraton in Papeete. It was around $160.00 IIRC. we got off the ship early and had to leave the room by 1800 for our 2200 flight home. You can stay on the ship but we had to vacate our cabin by 1000 so we just got the room to relax in.
EAC Posted September 20, 2007 #7 Share Posted September 20, 2007 We also got in early, taken to Sheraton and was able to use their pool area until the shuttle to the Tahitian Princess. We got a room at Sheraton on departure and was at the Sheraton the afternoon and evening enjoying another day without being crowded on the TP. It worked well. Look online for the best deal & just pay for it:) . The heat & humidity almost takes your breath away & there is no air conditioning at the airport. You're going all that way...you might as well go for the best time & be ready for that loooong flight. Plus EVERYTHING is expensive in Tahati. On Moorea a 1.75L bottle of Jack Daniels Tennessee whiskey was only $140.00. :D By contrast there were plenty of French wines at a reasonable cost. Go figure. ;)
