Austria'a National Day - 10/26/2007

We will be overnighting in Vienna on 10/26/2007, prior to our Viking cruise to Amsterdam. I now have discovered that Austria's "National Day" takes place on that date. Does anyone have any information on what is open and what is closed on that day? I assume that the banks are closed, but I would like to find out if any of the many touristy things are open or closed.

Thanks.

Betty/Avie,

All "regular" shops should be closed on the National Holiday (banks, grocery stores, boutiques...). I´m quite sure that in Vienna all tourist attractions are open. Usually souvenir shops are open too in touristy areas. But expect all other shops to be closed on that day.

If you want to visit a certain attraction it´s a good idea to check the opening hours online prior to your trip.

Hi LuAnn,

Great to hear from you! We´re all well but in a status of moving to a new condo and therefore I don´t have much time to check the boards. Actually we´ll be offline for a while until all is settled down in the new home (I can go online at work of course).

It was great meeting you and Kenneth!

My DH pulled out his "diaries" and we found the following info for you re restaurants in Vienna: One night we ate at Boheme..(there should be a "slash" over the last e but no way to do that on this American computer!).. it was about 3 blocks from the Museum of National History, we have a postcard and this is what is on it (this was arranged by our hotel as this was Christmas Eve and not many places were open) ..taglich von 11-24 Uhr and also Szenalokal am Spittelberg-Restaurant 1070 Wien. I have no idea what all this means because we depended on a taxi to get us there..but I am sure that the hotel concierge where you are staying should be able to help you..either via the internet before you arrive or when you get there. On Christmas Day night ..again because of the holiday.. we depended on the hotel to help us with open restaurants and we ate at "Fino"..both were great..but not sure how they would "rank" on any scale because..based on the time of year..we were going with the places which were open..but if it is the same there as here in San Diego..most of the nicer restaurants serve dinners during the holidays..Good luck and have a wonderful time...I know you will love it!! LuAnn
