All things Monarch of the Seas

Recommended Posts

Hello All, I have been enjoying reading everything here about the Monarch. My DH and DS (11) will be going on the Monarch for the first time in July. DH and I have only been on 1 cruse before,on the Grand Princess. This is a surprise for our 10 year old's 11th b-day. I was looking for prices for the heck of it and found rates that I couldn't refuse. My question/concern that I am hoping that some of you may be able to offer some feedback on is, our cabin is on deck 3 the very first cabin forward. 3500. I am very worried about the motion. I have already resigned myself that we have a portal instead of a window. Has anyone ever stayed anywhere as close forward or as low as the 3rd deck?

Both times I have been on the Monarch, I've been on deck number 2. You feel less motion down there, then you do towards the top of the ship.

Does Monarch have hair dryers in the cabins?

And has anyone been to Descanso Beach on Catalina? I asked this on the destinations board and got no replies. Is it within walking distance of the tender pier?

Hair dryer question has been answered.

Descanso Beach is located just beyond the Casino Ballroom. It's an easy walk from the ship, and has a beachside bar. Great spot for viewing the Monarch!!:D

Sound fun! I think I will definately volunteer myself and my group for this! :D

There are some (hilarious!) videos of the game being played on YouTube!

Are spectators allowed? I'd be interested in watching - not so much for participating, though. ;)

Dh, myself and our 4 kids are planning on cruising on Monarch next June out of PC FL. Does anyone know how badly the views on level 8 are obstructed?

I saw the list of the best rooms but we couldn't get them. The only side by sides OVs available on the ship that would sleep all of us were 8586 & 8588.

Will the view be almost completely blocked. This will be their first cruise and I would hate for them to not even be able to see out their window.

I saw pics of an obstructed OV on another cruise line from inside the cabin and they only had about 1' of opening so you could barely see under the life boat. Is this ship that bad?

The pink dots show which cabins are the least obstructed. The others have lifeboats in front of them.

8584 has a dot but we are in 8586 adn 8588. Guess we won't be seeing much. I can't get room spread out more because the kids need to be right next to us.

Guess they won't be seeing much on their first cruise out their window. We have others that have decide to sign up today so we can't change our cruise now.

Is there anything on the ships that sleep 6 in one room? I know it would be more expensive but it might be worth it if there is.

I have found this thread very interesting. My wife and I sailed on the Monarch 16 years ago this very week out of San Juan on a 7 day southern caribbean. It was our first cruise and we loved it. We recently just took our two boys on the Voyager and we all had a great time. We loved the Monarch back then, it was fairly new at the time. We are booked on a 4 night September 15 and we are looking forward to it. There is a thread for the cruise but only one other couple has said they are going. We are hoping that more CC members join us on this cruise. We really enjoyed our M&M on the Voyager and hoping that there is one on this cruise.

Hi, I have been trying to find the answer on this thread for this question and haven't yet, so sorry if it is a repeat.

Monday morning, do they serve a breakfast before you get off the ship? Do you have to get off at 7:00? How long can you stay on?

Thank You

Eric, there are Meet 'n' Mingles only on cruises of 7 days or longer. We have arranged our own get togethers, via our Roll Calls.

Breakfast is available in both the main dining room and the Windjammer on disembarkation day. They can start calling people as early as 6:45, depending on the particular cruise. It takes several hours to get everyone off.

Thanks, I did not know that. As it stands at the moment, it's still just my wife and I and another couple.

There is one Family Suite on this ship, but it books fast.

Thanks when I look at their site online it says I have to call to get the price for it but it shows the prices for all the other suites, just not the family suite.

Does that mean it's booked already? I hate calling for prices, I like to be able to look without actually being pressured to book it.

If anyone has ever booked the family suite can you give me a rough average on price pp. Please

I guess I'll go ahead update this thread too in case anyone is wondering about the size etc of the suites on the monarch:

Ok I called and had it almost all ready to go. Then then she comes back to tell me that the family suite only sleeps 5 :(

Booking 4 in it and 2 in the JS next door jumps our cost another $2,000 above what i would have been paying to book all of us into the RFS. That's out of our price range Grrrrrr

So now I'm waiting to see if SDS who booked an OV with his girlfriend would like to upgrade to our neighboring JS and I'll pay the difference, should be about $1,000 and one DS can be booked in with him.

Or maybe I'll just book DH and 1 DS in a cheap interior and break the rules and let them stay with us.

Such a mess.
