rlkubi Posted October 5, 2007 #1 Share Posted October 5, 2007 Splinter or someone else who lives in San Diego or who has been at the above hotel, we are booked right now at the Old Town Inn but I'm looking at the above hotel also. We are going on the Spirit in March. We are planning to go to Sea World, etc. We don't want to have to rent a car if possible. Which hotel would be a better pick near train, trolley, etc.?:)
iamirish Posted October 5, 2007 #2 Share Posted October 5, 2007 Of those two - DEFINITELY the Old Town Inn - it is only 2-3 BLOCKS to the Old Town Trolley Station - which is also a Transit Center - you would catch the bus there to Sea World. The other Hotel is about 5-6 MILES (maybe farther) from Old Town. Tom
rlkubi Posted October 5, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted October 5, 2007 Or would you recommend another hotel? We are staying at the Best Western Bayside the night before the cruise but it is sold out after. We didn't want to spend that much for 3 nights after either. Thank you all! rlkubi Posted October 5, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted October 5, 2007 I'm worried about the La Pensione Hotel because of no air conditioning. Isn't it uncomfortable? We're going in March '08. Is it near transportation?
iamirish Posted October 6, 2007 #6 Share Posted October 6, 2007 You will NOT need A/C in March in SD - - - Each room has a ceiling fan and I think a window that opens. It is only about 2-3 blocks to the San Diego Trolley (our Public Transportation) - that line goes to Old town and if you like all the way to Tijuana, Mexico - different directions, of course. Splinter Posted October 6, 2007 #7 Share Posted October 6, 2007 Stick with the Old Town Inn. You can walk (about 3 blocks) to the Old Town Transportation center, where you can get either a bus (to Sea World) or a San Diego Trolley (downtown or Mission Valley or Little Italy), or even catch the Old Town Trolley Tour (commercial on-off tour). The Lamplighter is way east....there is nothing nearby that location. You would need a car, and it is in a direction where you would have to fight rush hour traffic on the freeway. Not a scenic location at all. La Pensione is also a good choice. You can get to the trolley easily. We only need air conditioning in this area of San Diego in August and early September. March will be cool and possibly (we hope) rainy.
