debihen Posted June 5, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2004 We live just 2 hours from Seattle, and wondered if a small cooler is allowed on board to bring back Alaskan Fish? Thanks all! Bon Voyage! Budget Queen Posted June 6, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 6, 2004 Not that I have seen?? How do you plan on storing it yourself?? A cooler isn't going to do it over a day. I understand HAL now will store fish for you with the purchase of an approved cooler.
mbisson Posted June 6, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 6, 2004 debihen I think BQ needs a better cooler ;-). You just have to drain off the melt and add more ice (or dry ice). YOu could even find out if there's anyplace you could have your fish frozen prior to bringing it onto the ship (which would help it keep longer). I asked this same question a few months ago and got some responses, such as the above, but I also got a couple emails from people stating that not only was it possible, but they had done it. I would check with NCL, it may depend on the cruiseline. BTW-If you're thinking of Salmon fishing, I don't do it as much in Alaska as I once did. The fishing the last several seasons has been great in Westport and runs about $70-$75 per person for a complete day of fishing (as opposed to roughly double that for a few hours in Alaska). And I can't taste the difference -Monte some of my cruising photos: http://community.webshots.com/user/m1bisson A bad day cruising is better than a good day at work. The worst cruise I ever took was pretty damned good. debihen Posted June 7, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted June 7, 2004 Thanks for the information Monte! We of course, know that we would have to have the fish frozen, or use dry ice, and that we would indeed, have to keep it cold. Not a problem for seasoned campers such as we are. Just wondered if it would even be allowed on NCL. I will try to contact them and find out. Bon Voyage! Debbie Our NCL Spirit/Superstar Leo Cruise!!!! mbisson Posted June 7, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 7, 2004 Debbie Let me get this straight...You like to cruise, fish, camp and Mickey Mouse?? If you like the occassional drink and Mariners/Seahawks game YOU ARE THE PERFECT WOMAN, provided you like the Cougs over the Huskies. kikahead Posted June 7, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 7, 2004 We just got off HAL and for $6.00 they stored our fish (40 lbs!!! ) in the freezer (they had a fish box). We brought it back to San Francisco and served it at a party. No one's called us to say the feel sick yet.....

LOL -Monte

OK, here's the scoop: I am a MAJOR Disney freak (I even am a card carrying member of the Mickey Mouse Club), I love camping, am ok with fishing, and am such a Mariner Nut that I own a 2003 Suzuki XL7 and my licence plate (no kidding) reads ICHIRO. I once attended a Cougs football game, and have never attended a Huskies game, so I guess that makes me a Cougs fan. I don't drink, and do not like football at all. I guess you could say I am like Mary Poppins...practically perfect in every way...and my husband agrees! mbisson Posted June 9, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 9, 2004 Debbie, Have a great cruise. I think you're going with the perfect attitude. Please try to post some photos and a review when you get back. The M's are breaking my heart this year and I'm more of a Gar fan than an Ichiro fan (but love him also). BTW-I have some pictures of our last 2 Alaska cruises on my webshots site (also some camping picts) and there might be some Orlando pictures there also (can't remember). We're Disney enough that we bought a timeshare across the road from Disney Village. Combining our cruising & Disney passions in Dec when we're doing a week on the NCL Sun and a week in Orlando. -Monte some of my cruising photos: http://community.webshots.com/user/m1bisson A bad day cruising is better than a good day at work. We jsut returned from a 12 day WDW extravaganza in Orlando this past September. We did 4 nights at Port Orleans Resort, a 4 night Disney Cruise and finished it off with 4 nights in the Fabulous Animal Kingdom Lodge.
