what's your bar bill been?

No ifs ands or buts, we are drinkers. Beer, premium cocktails, top shelf martinis, champagne. We are on vacation after all! And, we are generous tippers at the bar.

We are used to luxury cruising where it's all included, but we're not about to cut back on our imbibing just because NCL doesn't include it. :) I'm sure there are others like us out there...what can we expect to pay for a 7-night cruise on the Pride of America?

TIA!

Surely, you do not expect answers of value to this question. Do you have have one drink, two, three per meal, per day? Beer, wine, booze, top shelf? On ice, fancy, keep the glasses/

Eat ashore for some meals or all on the ship? Drinks in cabin via room service? Drinks at shows? Drinks at pool?

The point is there are many variables. Some drink 1 glass of wine for the week. Some have drinks at all the options above. Just hard to answer the question.

......another big variable.....do you buy rounds for others......that can really add to the tab......;)

At an average of $7.00 per drink......times 10 drinks a day .......times two people .......can add up to a $1,000.00 bar tab easily over seven days....;)

On our last cruise (8 day on the NCL Spirit from NY in April 07) we had 4 rooms & all the kids had soda cards except for the teenager...she loved the virgin colada drinks;)

The bar bill was as follows:

Room 1 (1 senior)-$15.00

Room 2 (2 adults + a teenager)-$950.00

Room 3-(2 adults)-$1300.00

Room 4-(2 adults)-$600.00

If you are a beer drinker, get the helmet...I believe it was $22.00 for a 6 pack.

I've been wondering about drink bills myself. I probably will just have a few drinks a day (2-3) but my husband will probably do beer during the day. How does the beer helmet work? Is this something you just do at the bar?

Also, I take it there is a happy hour and how much are the drinks during that time?

As much as it's vacation and we want to enjoy I don't want to fall over when we see the bill at the end. Thanks!!

It's actually not hard to answer. I think what the OP was asking was for the details that the subsequent passengers provided. Get off your high horse and either help or don't respond!

We spent just about $1000. I am a wine drinker, my husband is a beer, wine, mixed drinker and we bought rounds a few times for the group that we were with. Hope that helps!

Thanks, these responses are exactly what I was looking for. I was figuring around $1000-1200. I figure if I have a number in my head, then at least I won't be too shocked ;)

I have heard that you can check your balance whenever you want on your cabin's TV, is that true?

Gosh - don't feel so bad about our bar bill now. Ours came out to about $400 (for 2 people) and I thought we drank alot! Had to go home and dry out our livers!

$400.00 for a whole week for 2? Geez- a bottle of wine at dinner alone each night adds up to that for us :)

Yup- after spending thousands on a cruise I don't hold back when it comes to a nice wine at dinner or a grey goose cosmo when gambling :)

$0.00 No smoking except in the casino bar. NCL lost revenue from us do to the change.

What would it have been if you could smoke anywhere?

Our bar bill has been pretty small on each cruise. DW is not much of a barfly or drinker and I am not going to go to bars without her. We usually just mix a cocktail in the cabin before dinner. I have got the beer helments and I agree they are a good deal.

We just got back from our first cruise on the Spirit (Canada/New England). I would estimate our bar bill to be around $600 for two people and ocasionally buying drinks for our friends.

We drank beer, wine, and drinks like pina coladas and long island iced teas.

Here's a couple of tips if you're trying to keep the bar bill down...

My buddy and I brought the buckets of beer, which includes six beers for the price of five ($23 if I recall). You can mix different types of beer. Also, there is a $5 deposit for the bucket. Here's a tip for the beer drinkers. They have 16oz alum bottles of bud/coors. Do the math, that's two extra beers per bucket.

The price for wine is all over the board. We found a bottle of wine called Valley of the Moon. It's a Sarah from Austrailia. It was very good for an inexpensive bottle of wine ($23 to $26 per bottle). Austrailia is making some great wines. We had a bottle of this wine four or five times with dinner.

If you like wine? You're much better off buying a bottle and taking it back to your cabin. Buying by the glass can get expensive.

Also, when we hit port we brought back a six pack of beer from some breweries we went to. We just put it in the carry pack and security ran it throught the XRay with no problems. BTW, we found a fantastic Blueberry Wheat Ale in Bar Harbor......

Hope that helps....

NCL is strict about carrying on booze. They even xray checked luggage looking for wine bottles. However, many people are creative about how they get their favorite cocktails onboard. If there's a will--there's a way.

I think I will ask my TA to order me a bottle of wine for each day and pay her upfront because the cruiseline charges TA's a lower cost.

Between the free cocktails at the Captains Reception and the free drinks at the Casino welcome party and the Latitudes Reception--we were pretty happy on our last NCL cruise. However, when my DD told me there were 2 for 1 cocktail specials in the casino after 11pm, I was upset I didn't know about it until our cruise was over.

The first time we sailed NCL Dawn there were 2 for 1 drink specials at the Star Bar after 11pm. We would get a helmet of beers and get another free and fill our fridge every night.

Thanks!!! I'm sure we'll do the bucket of beers thing. Probably a bottle of wine with dinner, and then a martini and mixed drink here and there. Anyone recall if they have Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum? We like Captain & Diet Pepsi.

jack300s, was it Slo Blueberry Ale (from Downtown Brewing) or Sea Dog Bluepaw (Sea Dog Brewing Co.)? We love a great microbrew, that's for sure.

OK, now I am starting to sound like I need to be in AA rather than on NCLA! LOL! :)

Azgkrudi, it was the one from the Downtown Brewing. It was so good....When we got back home in California, I headed over to our Beverages and More. The only Blueberry Ale they had was Sea Dog. Brought a six pack and loved it. BTW, have you tried their Blueberry Soda? We had some on the Arcadia tour and it was great....

Just a note about the Spirit and not sure if its on all NCL Ships? They did not serve Pespi on board. Only Coke products. Both my wife and I like Pepsi and had to make due...

Funny you mentioned about AA. We're not big drinkers at home. But it seems when we go to Vegas, Tahoe, and now the high seas.....There's nothing better than a cold one.

We think the Sea Dog is slightly better, but both are great! Ever try a Black & Blue? (Similar to a black & tan - Guinness and Bass Ale - but replace the Bass Ale with a Bluepaw)

And yes, we are lifelong Pepsi drinkers by choice, but will do the Coke thing if we have to.

And as for your last paragraph, hey, when you are on vacation, you deserve to live it up! We've learned recently how short life is. Seize the moment!

Last 9 night Pearl cruise in March was over $ 6000 for the 2 of us,!

You ought to mail a copy of your tab to the head office..........and tell them you deserve a free cruise for running up a tab like that.......:)

The Casinos refer to big spenders like this as Whales.....:D
