Star Code

Hi, I just got back from a four PNW cruise on the Celebrity Mercury. We have been on 8 cruises and this was our first on Celebrity. Does anyone know what it means when an announcement is made over the PA that goes: Star Code Star Code Star Code and then they give a location. I am thinking it is a medical emergency? Is that correct. It happened on two different occasions while on board. Thanks.

You are correct, it is the code for a medical emergency, usually a passenger has collapsed with a heart attack.

It is something that happens quite frequently, especially on the cruises that attract older passengers, on a HAL cruise (30 days) we had 6 deaths , as well as several evacuations . The average age of the passengers was late 70's, and the doctor was kept very busy.
