Easy to get on and off ship while in port?

And yet another question :)

On a day in port, is it easy to get back on the ship to drop off purchases or pick up a bathing suit and then get off again? Or is that a big hassle, and once off you can't get back on until the evening?

Thanks!

Might help if you list the port and ship. Some ports need a tender boat, which makes it harder to just come and go. If the ship docks its pretty easy to go back and forth with ease.

It depends if your port of call tenders or not onto the island. Places like Grand Cayman and Cozumel (when I went at least) tendered into port. Tenders are small boats that come up to your ship and picks and up passengers to get onto the island. This is done because the port might not have the facilities to have the ship go directly to the shore or the water is too shallow, etc. Tendering can take a bit of time if there are literally thousands of people trying to get onto these tender boats that hold only around 50-150 people.

Nassau isn't too bad, especially if the ship is in the 1st dock. You just walk right back to it.

If you're further away, it obviously takes a bit more time. And you never know what sort of crowd you may encounter in the "terminal" building there.

If a ship is leaving close to the time you're trying to return to the ship, it will take longer. Other times, you may walk right through (they do check your ID).

Some piers are kind of long. You walk down 2 very long piers to get into town in Cozumel. But if you like to walk it's no problem. In Jamaica the terminal is right next to where the ship docks & this year they had a small flea market set up on the pier.My husband made 2 trips to unload stuff. The only problem he encountered was getting stuck in the elevator on the ship because the crew was doing emergency drills & the elevators shut down as they would in a real emergency. But it was only for a couple of minutes.

I hope you have a wonderful cruise!

Even in ports that tender, once the early excursion rush is over, it's pretty easy to go back and forth, but you might have to wait a few minutes for the tender.

I don't think you'll have that problem in Nassau, though. It's very easy to get back on and off the ship during the day. Only really rough times are early morning and when all the excursions arrive back.
