Giantfan13 Posted June 8, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 8, 2004 We are looking to book a hotel in Anchorage for a few days after our cruise. What is the best area to look for. I see South anchorage, Central, Airport etc. Which is prime location or does it really matter. We are probably going to rent a car also. When we disembark in Whittier, what's the best way to get to Anchorage and to the respected area that is best to stay in??
brian903 Posted June 8, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 8, 2004 It doesn't really matter if you've got a car. Anchorage isn't really that big in terms of driving. Depending on traffic, you can get from one end of town to the other in less than 10 minutes. The airport is only 5 or 10 minutes from downtown. Budget Queen Posted June 8, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 8, 2004 However- having a car is far better than not for the ability to get to your destinations, easily and quickly. Makes much better use of time and direct access to your activities. I am never without a car in Alaska. Without a car- I would look at downtown, with a car- anywhere. You could overnight one night in Talkeetna for a different experience?? From Whittier- you have several options- cruise bus and train, Avis rental car- with only a "few days" this would make the best use of your time. Regular run of the Alaska RR, limo, shuttles. brian903 Posted June 8, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 8, 2004 You know, I just re-read what I wrote, and realized it didn't come across like I meant. What I meant was, if you have a car, then Anchorage isn't that big. I didn't mean that you don't need a car. Sorry about the confusion.
