Wireless Laptop ??

Has anyone taken one of these on a cruise? Do they work alright? We'll be on the Mercury in November and wondering if it would be worth taking.

We took ours on the Oosterdam and were able to use it in several locations on the ship. We did not opt to use it in the cabin, because we would have had a slower connection. We had to pay HAL for the connection, but we had some fun with the computer. On our trip home we were able to get a connection in the Ft Lauderdale airport.

I could be wrong, but I don't think that particular ship has been wired for wi fi just yet.

I was on Mercury last October and they didn't have WiFi access. :( An acquaintance on the cruise actually took his laptop around the ship to search for a WiFi signal (sometimes you can crack a "secure" system used by an office) and he wasn't able to log on anywhere. I'm not sure that Celebrity has WiFi on any of their ships yet - although the M-class ships have in-stateroom access through a dial-up system.

Thank you for the responses, I did try Customer Service, but you can guess where that got me. I appreciate your help. Guess we'll leave it home.

MsByrdy - I didn't mean to dissuade you from bringing a laptop, just that you won't be able to surf wirelessly. We've taken one of our laptops on our last few cruises, and used it to download and organize our digital photos every few days, and to keep a running cruise review that we can download to CruiseCritic when we're back. We also used it to play MP3 music in the cabin, or you could bring CD's. We didn't, but you could also bring DVDs to watch your favorite movies. For checking and sending e-mails we just used the shipboard internet cafe or found one in port (much cheaper than onboard).

Thanks, not a problem, we've always used the internet cafe or onshore ones before, no reason we can't again. Just another thing we don't have to carry. LOL (I'm not a light packer)
