samismom Posted June 17, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Misty, I have been looking for someone that has taken a Kayaking tour. Is it worth the money? Do you really see anything up close, or just in the distance. Is the scenry worth it or not? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Jan
lmcd Posted June 17, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Need to look at what's type excursions are available and narrow your choices. Look at these websites for independent tours: Juneau- www.traveljuneau.com ketchikan- www.visit-ketchikan.com skagway- www.skagway.org These sites have links to different type of independent operator tours. Budget Queen Posted June 18, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 18, 2004 Kayaking out of Ketchikan is excellent, don't expect wildlife however, very scenic and most doable by anyone. "Most popular"?? Juneau- whale watching, glaicer helicopter landing, Mendenhall glacier visit via bus. Skagway- White Pass RR, rental car drive to Emerald Lake 75 miles each way, Haines tours, glacier dog sledding and glacier helicopter landing tours. Ketchikan- Misty Fjords floatplanes, fishing, Saxman Village, walking tour downtown. BUT look over a shore excursion list and narrow down YOUR interests, just way too many great tours to choose from. boston1733 Posted June 20, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 20, 2004 My husband and I did Snorleking in Ketchikan. It was great. When we told people what we were doing they thought that we were nuts. A bus picked us up at the pier and drove us 10 minutes out of town, at the Snorkeling shop we were outfitted with wet suits and the rest of the equipment we needed. We saw sea stars, lots of them, urchins, sea cucumbers and losts of neat fish. Very good experience, I highly recomended. yukoner Posted June 20, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 20, 2004 A good tour out of Skagway is the Yukon Hiking adventure up in the Yukon. If you want to get out and see the back country and have an enjoyable Lunch. This is a good tour. I 've heard only good and a lot of happy people. It was hand built 1905 and then some guy restored by hand. If you hiuke check it. Good travels, Wayne
