Whale Watching with Marv and Harv

I want to thank all of you, especially "BUDGET QUEEN", for the encouragement to plan a self guided land tour. We'll be arriving in Anchorage on 8/7/08, spending 10 days traveling, then sailing on the Island Princess on 8/18/07. Now for the first of many questions:

We'll be in Jeneau on 8/22 and want to do a whale tour with Marv and Harv. We have the option of either a 9:00 am or 3:00 pm tour. Any thoughts on which is better? Mornig or afternoon??

Have you checked with the tour operator? I think they probably know better about the chance of seeing whales at different hours than most of people here since most people can only go with one of their tours?

we are sailing on the coral princess nb that week and will be in juneau on aug 21st. we have a reservation with harv and marv that day. i asked eileen if morning or afternoon was better and she said it doesn't matter....depends on what you want to do the rest of your time there and everything else is unpredictable. we decided to go with the morning excursion and then go to mendenhall glacier and mt. robert tramway afterwards.

We booked this past week with Harv and Marv for May 13th. We chose the morning tour ourselves. We were in Junuea May of 2006 and there is lots to see and do. Carol

Eileen must be very busy with 2008 bookings .... we booked August 13 in the AM as we hope to take the helicopter glacier dog sledding tour in the afternoon and were concerned about fog in the morning.

The whales are in the water 24/7, there is NO way to predict the sightings.

 

I suggest you book your timeframe according to other plans you have in port and make the best use of blocked time.
