Ms belp Posted December 29, 2007 #76 Share Posted December 29, 2007 We tried something last year, can't remember what it was. It might have been Frontline or something else. It was from the vet. We will try Frontline now for sure!:) I haven't been able (in my heart) to replace my Misty...or my Peanut. Ouch is right. Okay, back to cruising stuff; sorry folks!:)
Baitman19 Posted December 29, 2007 #77 Share Posted December 29, 2007 Hey Diane!!! Wish we were sailing with you guys. :D We don't mind those cold sea days either. They're our 'drinking to warm up days'.... ;)Hope you have a wonderful cruise. Best to Monty... Jackie Hi Jackie, No Owner's Suite for us this time. I booked an AC a year ago and I thought the price was high then. All considered; they are only doing a few long cruises this year out of NYC and with only one NCL ship and the Gem is brand new. The price was going to be more than the Dawn anyway. One month after I booked my AC went up $2,500 total. Now for the great news! We are now the Courtyard Villa thanks to an upsell. It's once in a lifetime deal and I had to take it. I promise I won't tell ANYONE what I paid for it. Remember when you could call the Upsell Desk and get an offer and what happened when the CCer's kept calling EVERYDAY and they changed the policy. A GOOD thing was ruined!!!!! I know you're going on thr Gem later this year. Have a great cruise! Monty

Happy to hear you got the upsell and will have the chance to try it out. It is great news! We booked an aft AE, but it's only for 7 days. I'll miss the longer cruise this time, but it won't stop me from going. Hubby started a new job in July, teaching at a private school. They close 4 weeks out of the year, so we don't have a lot of choices when we can cruise. No biggie, but it sure does limit my cruise shopping. Wow, your cruise is almost here!!! Have a wonderful time and we'll be waiting to hear all about it. Jackie

The OS's are just so special and hard to resist! We're in one of the Deck 9 AE's also. We're going 3/15 -- I see you're going in April. That's so close, we almost got to cruise at the same time! I know we like the same things, except that you're a morning person & I'm not (as I recall:) ). I'll have to check to see which one we're in -- maybe I can leave you a little "something" hidden away somewhere.:D

Too bad we weren't on at the same time, would have been fun. I like just about everything on a cruise. ;) I was always a night person, the later the better. I can still hang in there if I'm doing something to keep me occupied. I can stay up all night if I'm in the casino. Once I stop, it's lights out. I do love getting up early and watching the sunrise. I guess it's because I never got to see it in my younger years. Ha ha! The OS or Courtyard Villas would be very hard to resist, but I really do want to try the aft AE. Keep me posted on your upsell offers. (being optimistic here) :D
nikkin Posted December 29, 2007 #84 Share Posted December 29, 2007 Would anyone happen to know if 2,358.00, is a bad price for two on the Gem to Bahamas in Feb, leaving from NYC.. I think 7 days.. I am not in love with the places it will visit , but I don't want to spend more than 3,000 on a trip right now.. So I see this as a little get away.. to hopefully warmer weather. Believe me, I would jump at an upsell, too! (What sane person wouldn't want one?) We met a couple in an OS who were offered the GV for $1000 total and turned it down. I would have grabbed it up in a second! Congrats on the Deluxe Owners Suite. That's a great deal!
cruisewmn Posted December 29, 2007 Author #90 Share Posted December 29, 2007 beachchick- Thanks for your last responses. I appreciate the good will. Email and chat room posts are tricky because it's all in the way the reader interprets the words. I'll be more careful to clarify my language in the future. (Just an FYI): I'm a former inner city public elementary school teacher who now home schools her special needs child. Not all people who book the Courtyard are snobs. I'm sorry that that was your experience.
Jana Posted December 29, 2007 #91 Share Posted December 29, 2007 Cruisewmn, I would love to "talk" to you (and Eileen N.) about traveling with a "special needs" youngster. Can you contact me at jana*at*sleeping-around*dot*com please? I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
beachchick Posted December 30, 2007 #92 Share Posted December 30, 2007 Jana, thanks for the nice reply. You can read why I'm still up on the "bed bug" post. I've lost two of my "children" this past year. Now have another that seems to be going down hill. The more you have to love...the more you have to lose, unfortunately.:( I'm so sorry you lost two sweeties this year. I do understand the pain. There are days even years later when I'll get a bit weepy about my truly special "kids" (not that my actual DD isn't wonderful--I am proud of her and love her to bits). As time goes by, it is easier to remember the good, the funny, or the truly hysterical times too. It just takes a while to get there. I hope you weather the storm and that the recent "down hill" becomes an "up hill" very soon. beachchick

I'm sorry that that was your experience. You've got a tough job, that's for sure. (This comes from someone in a family of teachers, so I can understand your extra challenges.) It's true that online "talking" can be tough because we can't "hear" intonation, tone of voice, etc. BTW, only those few I mentioned we utterly rude, boorish snobs. Everyone else in the CVs, OSs, and GV were very nice. I have no idea who paid full fare or who lucked into an upsell. I do know that the one party was beyond contempt in their attitude. beachchick

whale-watcher Posted December 30, 2007 #96 Share Posted December 30, 2007 Agree that the CV fares seem out-of-proportion in terms of value...for our upcoming Hawaii cruise, the cost of two AE penthouses on the PofAM was much less than the cost of a SINGLE A3 villa on the POH for the same week...we opted for the "lesser" cabins and will have more than double the amount of space (although not quite as many perks). We stop comparing fares and prices once our final payment is made, however!
Philip217 Posted December 30, 2007 #97 Share Posted December 30, 2007 cruisewmn, After reading all these posts following your question, I am tempted to assume one of two ideas: 1) Those NCL executives with $$ multi-million salaries are all idiots who have no idea what they are doing, and should be fired and replaced by someone far more knowledgable about the many intricacies of the cruise industry (like you?) or 2) Those fellows at NCL are pretty sharp guys who have spent millions on market research, and are using that expensive information to make some rather shrewd marketing decisions that - although you and I may not understand them at all - are going to make many more millions in profit for their company. Please don't take offense, but I'm going to have to vote for Option #2.
