Judging from context, these seem to be the terms used for family members. But what exactly do they stand for?

I think it depends on the situation. My DH can be dear, darling, dumb, dopey, or occasionally that word used by Clark Gable in Gone with the Wind.:o

Some one had the audacity last week to say its accepted [we know not where] to use your in place of you're.

Ooh! That is so NOT accepted! :eek: I spend so much time trying to teach my students the proper way to write, but when they see it wrong all the time, I often think it's a losing battle. The biggest fight is with them trying to use "&" instead of "and" in their formal essays. :rolleyes:

i always found it weird when i say these terms -- i never refer to my husband as "darling husband" or "dear husband" just husband... but I accept people who do, I just don't use them
