sjdnv Posted January 8, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 8, 2008 Hi, just looking for a little advise. We arrive in Rome 0720 hrs our hotel is across the road from the Vatican Museum Do you think we will be able to make a 1030am pre-booked tour of the Museum or should be book it for 1030 the next day then take a train to the port for a 5pm departure. Thanks in advance for your help
OttoCal Posted January 8, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 8, 2008 If your plane is on time you will make it,but you will be zombies in the musuem (assuming you are coming on a transatlantic from the US). On a trip to Rome we came in around this same time, took the train from the airport to the Rome Termini Station, then the metro to our hotel (mistake- take a marked taxi from the Termini to your hotel, metro at that time on a weekday will be packed w/ commuters), then dropped bags at hotel (too early to check in) then went to the Vatican- this was not in our plan, but it was raining and we ended up there. We wandered through the museuem in a daze and mostly giggled at each other. Got a short nap back at the hotel and were ready to go wandering around at night. Vatican area is not really a night time hot spot though, too touristy to have many very good restaurants. Try Trastavere or Campo Fiore neighborhoods for better dinner options. readboat Posted January 8, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 8, 2008 I would go with the next day. There can be to many delays at the airport. We will be arriving at 9:30 and plan to reach the hotel around 12:00. We are going to do a hop on hop off bus that afternoon, we can get off when we see something we want and then get back on. You will be tired. We have been to St. Pauls but not the Sistine Chapel, we will do it this time in the afternoon on the second day.
