GMoney Posted January 13, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 13, 2008 I watched both a week or 2 ago. Both are very good, but I preferred the first.
JanSun Posted January 14, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 14, 2008 Thanks for taking the time to notify us about these programs. I did some searching last week on my Tivo but nothing came up. Must not have used the correct search words. Janet
Cruisin Together Posted January 14, 2008 Author #6 Share Posted January 14, 2008 I did a search on keyword as sometimes the name of the show will be something without the word Alaska in it. It even brought up some episodes of COPS that was filmed in Alaska. Did not want to see that.
kellywhitehills Posted January 14, 2008 #7 Share Posted January 14, 2008 Anthony Bourdain is also doing Alaska..His show is No Reservations on the Travel Channel..It shows him in the kitchen with some Alaskan Native Americans eating a seal...The grandmother says I cannot wait to eat the brains...It looks like they are butchering the seal and eating it raw right on the kitchen floor.. Kerry&LuAnn Posted January 14, 2008 #8 Share Posted January 14, 2008 Also check the Travel Channel in February for a series called "Into Alaska with Jeff Corwin." A couple of episodes are "Denali National Park" (Feb 11) and "Kenai Peninsula" (Feb 12).
Chenega Posted January 15, 2008 #9 Share Posted January 15, 2008 Anthony Bourdain is also doing Alaska..His show is No Reservations on the Travel Channel..It shows him in the kitchen with some Alaskan Native Americans eating a seal...The grandmother says I cannot wait to eat the brains...It looks like they are butchering the seal and eating it raw right on the kitchen floor.. In some ways shows like this are deceptive because they perpetuate the myths of Alaska regarding living in igloos, keeping sled dogs, and eating seal meat. Those who live here also value a good steak, wonderful sea food, and a cinnamon dolce latte at Starbucks. Many of the so-called nature shows are staged as well. I know for a fact that the Corwin series shot much of the purported "wild footage" at the Alaska Conservation Center not far from Anchorage.
