Anyone know if there are flat screen TV's in the cabins yet?

I have a question. Comparing the Mariner and Adventure.... do you know if there is a big difference in the size of a regular E balcony cabin since the structure of the ships are different? I'm already feeling claustrophobic with the balcony being within the structure and enclosed more (I think you know what I mean). I have a balcony GTY so I'm anxiously awaiting my assignment.

Flat screen TV's would be nice!

I don't think there is a difference in the size of the cabin, or the balcony, the balcony will just feel more open and you can see out more easily from inside the cabin, so that may help with the claustrophobic feeling.

Sorry, no flat screens yet on either. (Only in the really nice suites!;)) I've been on both many times and you will love either ship.

I think this thread is long overdue.

Each week I see at least 2-3 posts regarding the Adventure of the Seas, people who have booked and are now afraid they made a mistake - and people who have yet to book, that may not ever book because of what they read on here.

As many of you know, I have cruised on the AOS 3 times and have had wonderful cruise vacations on all 3. I am sailing again next month on my 2nd B2B on the AOS and I am eagerly anticipating another fantastic cruise! :)

Here are a few commonly asked questions about the AOS:

Q: Does the AOS have a large amount of Puerto Ricans sailing on her for most cruises?

A: Yes, there are Puerto Rican's on cruises out of San Juan. It is their home port and I would be very surprised if they weren't.

Q: Are the announcements in Spanish as well as English?

A: Yes they are. Is it an issue? No.

Q: Are Puerto Ricans rude and rowdy?

A: No more rude and rowdy than other passengers I have seen on other ships and other itineraries. Puerto Ricans are a lively bunch :)

Q: Is the AOS a sick ship, or more prone to Noro than other ships?

A: No. The AOS has as much chance of a noro outbreak as any other ship in the RCI fleet.

Q: I have booked the AOS and after reading negative reviews, I want to cancel - what should I do?

A: You can cancel you cruise if you want, but you will be missing out on a fantastic cruise on a great ship sailing on a wonderful itinerary!

I do understand that some people have had negative experiences on the AOS - but the same can be said for any other ship. There will always be people cutting in line, pushing elevator buttons, chair hogging and the list goes on......unfortunately, some people like to leave their manners at home :(

My experiences have been terrific on the AOS and I would encourage anyone to sail on her and see for themselves what a great ship she is!!

Yes....I am an AOS cheerleader, and proud of it!!!

I have to agree with CKROBYN, the AOS is fantastic, I was worried before when I read the bad reviews after I had booked last December, and almost canceled.

I am now booked for Jan.2010 because We enjoyed the last AOS cruise so much. Leaving from San Juan port made it that much more enjoyable.

If you are the type who look for things to complain about, you will find things to complain about on every ship. Book and enjoy a great experience, and enjoy the P.R. locals, they have a lot to share with you, if you take the time to show them an interest in their culture. Sure sometimes, there is a little more noise then usual , but they are enjoying themselfs, and the departure port is in their country, but the AOS is large enough to find many quite areas.

CKROBYN, could I have the E Mail for Dee Dee the C.L. Manager please.

Mason - this may sound like an odd question....but did you notice any weird smells at the aft of the ship? I had cabin 1694 a few years ago and ended up changing cabins for the 2nd week of our B2B because there was a foul smell in the cabin that could not be gotten rid of....it's a bit of a silly question because it was a few years ago and I am sure the problem has long been fixed :)

Did the AOS get the flat screen TV's after the dry dock?

Hey Ckrobyn, we had 1394 last Dec, had no smell problem at all.

Hey Ckrobyn, we had 1394 last Dec, had no smell problem at all.

When we were on the AOS in May of 2008, we were talking to Captain Nyseter and he said that 29 plumbers had gotten onboard with our sailing. So it was around that time that they were doing some major plumbing replacements. We didn't notice any smells at that time in 1688 & 1388 aft, but there must have been problems in places and it sounded like our week was just part of a major ongoing plumbing replacement. RCCL takes great care of their ships and the AOS looked better in 2008 than it did on our 2006 cruise since all the teak handrails had been re-varnished and extensive new carpeting. Hopefully the flat screens are not far off!

We fell off the board again!:(

I do have a question though. On every cruise I've been on (all 3 of them) when we board, the outdoor pools have all been covered over. Are the pools open on the day of embarkation? I'm thinking that my kids would love to get in the pool to waste some time before our cabin opens - or even afterwards before dinner.

Thanks for the help.

On the Thanksgiving Cruise on AOS, we were one of the first 20 people on the boat. I had my bathing suit on under my shorts and hit the pool aftr lunch in the Windjammer. I was amazed at how few people were around the pool on embarkation day. On our other cruises the pool was packed, but the pool on AOS was not busy at all. I think I left the pool area around 5 PM and it was never crowded.

We have found that to be the case as well. We especially enjoy the Solarium on that first afternoon since it is almost empty! I think many either come in on late flights or get in early and then leave the ship to see Old San Juan. We always come in at least a day or two early and then enjoy the ship when we do get on.

85 more sleeps!!!!

Still wanting to know about flat screens from recent AOS cruisers....

I am sooooo jealous! 113 more for me. I'm trying to keep myself from getting too excited. I want my kids to love cruising as much as I do, but I want them to make that decision. I'm afraid if I get too excited they may not truly like it as much as I do, but only because I do (does that make sense?) Oh well - it sure is an exciting way to spend Spring Break! Of course my kids are getting to do something for Spring Break that I only dream of when I was their age! Darn kids - why do they have it better than I did????:)

Never too early to get excited about cruising!!!! Once you are under 100 sleeps, the time will fly by ;)

We brought our daughter on her first cruise when she was 8, and she was hooked! She will be 13 on our next cruise and still has the same excitement she had when we boarded the ship for the first time!

How old are your kids?

Robyn - this thread inspired my husband and I to book the AOS ourselves. We just got off her this past Sunday and all I can say is WOW!

Everything you have been saying about the AOS is so true.

Thank you so much for starting this thread. Without it, we may have never tried the AOS.

Thanks Autumn! I am so thrilled that you had an amazing cruise on my favorite ship :D:D

I started this thread a few years ago to address the concerns of so many - yet everyone who comes back to share their experiences are always sharing positive one's!:)

Robyn - the kids are 14 & 10. They aren't as excited yet, but I think that's because Santa comes in 2 weeks! After that, I think the excitement will start to build for them.
