That was EXACTLY my thought!!

 

Carnival asks that we "dress-up" for dinner those particular nights....as a way of making those meals extra special. Nowhere have I seen them ask us to "dress-up" for the night.

 

Just for the record....we do dress for dinner and then after photos return to our casual wear for the rest of the evening. But have never really paid attention - or cared - if others stay dressed from dinner. Live and let live is our motto.....

it cracks me up that people always mention eating, pictures and then change. Why would you get your picture taken dressed up if you don't like to dress up. Why would you want this to be a token from your vacation? When people ask about the pictures, do you declare, 'we ran back and changed right after they snapped the picutre'..? Odd to me, but whatever people want to do. Heck, I went to the muster drill in a tux, so I know I'm on the otherside of the curve.

 

Well....since you asked....we CHOOSE to have the pictures taken because we usually cruise with family that we do not get to see often. So the pictures are a lovely momento of our experience.

 

When you look at pictures shared with you by others do you ask what they did before and after the picture was taken??? THAT seems odd to me :rolleyes:

Just out of curiosity for the changers, if you go to a restaurant at home that requires more than your jeans and a T-shirt, do you run home to change before you go to the movie? If you were in, say, Las Vegas, would you run to your room to change between dinner and your night out in the casinos or at a show? :confused:

 

I suppose some of it has to do with the way you're brought up as a child. Jeans, T-shirts, shorts, sneakers... none of them are appropriate when out and about in the EVENING on ANY night, to some people.

It sounds like it all comes down to 'COMFORT'.

 

If you're comfortable in those clothes you spent hours or even days in the mall to purchase, you'll want to enjoy them as long as you can. Geez. Why go through all that trouble shopping for just a couple hours of wear??

 

Well, I am still shopping for a second pair of shoes to bring to formal night. I found these lovely open-toed heels, but they are agony to wear. No heels would feel good on these feet. Got nerve damage.

 

But, since formal night is so important to me, I'm gonna try to bear with it. I'd love to stay in my formal wear as long as possible. All depends on comfort.

I think I explained myself earlier. Just in case you missed it.

 

I wear my tux or suit to dinner and the show. After that I change for the casino or disco.

 

Most people dont wear a tuxedo to a disco while out on the town.

I go to vegas a lot and spend mega-time at the poker tables. Rare is the person who steps into the casinos in anything but really casual.

Who cares what others are doing??? It's your cruise, you do what you want and it's their cruise, they do what they want!

 

I personally like to enjoy the rest of my evening in my pretty clothes, and I don't feel like changing that many times a day.

I agree, I like to dress! I like to dress every night. I like to stay dressed up the rest of the night.

But I'm not the only one cruising and unless it's a rule and one the ship wants to enforce -- there's nothing that can be done!

We have taken several cruises, all of which have been Caribbean. We enjoy being out on the open decks after dinner and the warm tropical evening air is sooo much better in casual summer clothes. A jacket & tie, gown & heels, are too much for us to wear all night in paradise. :cool:

dang' date=' I threw my last clutch out. I got tired of saving it. Seeing as how 50% of it was embedded in the bell housing of my Mustang I though it was useless to keep around....especially since I sold the car 8 years ago :D :p :rolleyes: :eek:

I've read enough on these threads that say MOST people enjoy dressing up. But then why do they call it "formal NIGHT" why not just formal "HOUR?" And since it is formal NIGHT, if you hate it so much, why take a cruise? Or why not just eat elsewhere that night? If there was something I hated or felt forced to do, I wouldn't do it! (Unless it was mandatory like a job duty). If I hated so badly putting on formal clothes for 1-2 nights (Oh the HORROR!) I just wouldn't cruise because I know that's part of a cruise!

 

Just so I understand this - are you saying if I choose to go change shortly after dinner on formal nights then I shouldn't be allowed to eat in the dining room on those nights? I've already told my son that he could go change just as soon as dinner is over. Maybe I better tell him if he does that we won't be able to partake in the dining room. :rolleyes:

 

For crying out loud - what does it matter what other people do? Mind your own business and get out of mine is what I say. I'll do what I want once the formal dinner is done and I don't really care what anyone thinks. I'm there to have a good time and if that means getting out of my pantyhose & heels after dinner then so be it.

Actually, it has NOTHING to do with the way I was brought up thank you. It has everything to do with the realities of cruising in the 21st centry on mass market cruise lines. Cruise lines have to cater to tastes and styles as they are now, not 50 years ago. By all means dress accordingly for the dining room, but harrumphing and puffing about how people are dressed beyond the confines of the restaurant is not only anachronistic, but ridiculous.

First of all, I dress up for dinner because I enjoy it. Just because I like to change into something more comfortable after dinner doesn't mean I HATE dressing up and I don't feel FORCED to do it. It's my choice, not YOURS!!! What are you, the formal night police? Do you not have anything better to do on your cruise but to see who changed and who didn't? What does it matter? I can't believe I read this entire thread...it's silly.

No, but if go to to a 5 star restaurant at home the night usually doesn't include a movie. Actually there are very few places in Vegas that require a coat and or tie for men. Country Club Casual, ( and yes, I really do know what that means), is as dressed up as I get there. They want you to have fun and spend money.
