Glacier Dog Sledding-Help

I need some help in deciding on which port and time to choose for glacier dog sledding. I have heard that this excursion is the most likely to be canceled due to poor weather, but I would like to make

my chances the best possible.

Juneau or Skagway?

Morning or Afternoon?

RCL serenade is in Juneau port from 7am to 3 pm

NCL Pearl from 2pm to 10pm

both ship are in Skagway all day.

Thanks for any help?

Also,

Anyone would would like to give a comment about RCL Serenade vs. NCL Pearl, I would appreciate any input.

DH states his Alaska priorities, best food possible, Glacier Dog Sled, everthing else comes in third.

Hi, I suppose you are looking at a round trip cruise rather than a one way.

If you decide on a one way and get to Seward, then the dog sled there is much less cancelled than in other ports. It is with Godwin Glacier Tours and a smaller company so not as many people at the time. I did a lot of research and decided on this one. Many other attractions in Seward as well. If I had the choice I would certainly do a one way cruise. Take a look at the various ones and compare the RT with the OW. Just my humble opinion.

mdeane,

Thank you so much for the advice. That is why I enjoy this board so much. I had no idea that there was an option for this in Seward. I will look into this ASAP. Can you tell me, mdeane, which ship you took and whether you would recommend a certain ship as well.

Any other advice out there?????

Skagway is slightly less canceled compared to Juneau.

Seward ships are RCI, Celebrity and HAL, with HAL superior in my opinion.

You can get to Seward if you go into Whittier, with Carnival or Princess, BUT it does take time and planning.

With a one way, I strongly recommend you add as many extra days as you can and take advantage of being all the way there. :) Plenty to see and do.
