My son will be getting married on St.Thomas in april/08 and we are looking for a good tour guide with lots of personality to be our personal driver for our special occasion. We are an active group and are looking forward to having lots of fun. I would appreciate any recommendations for guides and places to eat, thanks.

We did a private tour with V.I. Scenic Tours in December. Burlie did a fantastic job showing us the island. Her private tour package is very reasonable and she makes herself available to you the entire day. This was my first cruise and of all the tours I took hers was the best. She made it so special and was very accommodating. We highly recommend her. www.viscenictours.com

This is not a tour guide suggestion, but rather a day sail activity. We just got back from a cruise and did a day sail on HighPockets. It was the HIGHLIGHT of our trip. We had a blast. Captain Kathleen and her husband Jim were wonderful, the food was terrific, the sailing was a blast and the snorkeling was the best. I can't rave enough about how much fun it was.

If you get the chance for a day sail, you really should look them up.

MoveMyGroup is Papa Bear which is also Air Force 1 Tours.

We loved Papa Bear. Because there everyone on the bus was from the Miracle (13 of us) and we weren't sailing until 8 pm, we got an extended island tour. We even stopped at his house and met his dog, Scoobie!

Unfortunately, because we spent so much time on the tour, by the time we got to Sapphire Beach, it was too late to rent snorkel equipment. Of course, we were there in December. Maybe they stay open later during the summer.

Send Papa Bear an email and tell him Joan from the Carnival Miracle on 12/20 recommended him.

  • 1 month later...

In July 2007 we sailed with Kathleen on HighPockets and had a fantastic day. The snorkeling was the best. I didn't realize how much my kids (ages 18 and 23) enjoyed it until we started talking about doing a cruise over Christmas 2008. As we looked at the different Caribbean itineraries and St Thomas popped up, both of the kids said that we have to book with Kathleen again. She is extremely accommodating and we had the best time both on her boat and snorkeling. I highly recommend Highpockets. Needless to say, we are sailing with her again in December 2008.

We recently booked this sail for April 16th. The price is $135.00 pp using a charge card. If you pay in cash on the day of the sail, it is $125.00 pp. Hope you join us on this sail, if there is availability. Sounds like alot of fun.

After reading lots of different information on this board, we were very disappointed with Godfrey. He was 20 minutes late picking us up (which he told another couple he over-slept); we really aren't hard to please but he told the same information over again (he told us 4 times about how their schools are there); he was then late for picking us up from shopping, traffic was bad so I'm ok with that one, but because of all of the delays, we made it back to the ship with 5 minutes to spare...talk about being nervous  ! He was very nice and cordial just the uncertainty of everything made us nervous.

We just went on a private tour with Henry a couple of weeks ago. Two families rented him out for the day. It was amazing, and he was fabulous. We had 4 kids and 4 adults and he went where we wanted, when we wanted with some great recommendations. He was even nice enough to get us a cooler from his place to use for the day. He knows tonnes about about the island. The kids especially enjoyed his tour of the garden showing the vegitation and culture in St.Thomas. We had this great detour to get the cooler! We will definately use him when we go back. His prices were also very reasonable and you have the whole tour bus if you rent a private trip. It's totally worth it, as you have all the fexibility you need. Don't hestitate for a minute, go with Henry, you won't be disappointed.

That was the same impression we had after reading about him; we really are not hard to please (you can read my entire review under Carnival Destiny); it's just the factor that he was late made us, especially my DH, really nervous. The information that he gave us was really no different from what we had the year before with just a regular taxi driver (we only did the tour this time because it was my mom and sister's first time in St Thomas)...

since we have never been on a cruise everything he would say would be new to us. was your tour good except for running late? we are easy to please, well i should say my husband is easy to please, i can get nervous if something goes wrong, but we will be on a great vacation,so i will have to let little things slide. I am making sure our tour ends hours before the ship is to leave just incase anything like what happens to you happens to us. i would still like more feed back regarding this and other tours so we can make a decision. hope to get lots of responses. i am aware that to 1 person something might be great and to someone else it may be awful that's why i want the good and bad that people have experienced so i can really see whats out there:cool:

We just returned back from our tour with Godfrey. While he was informative and we enjoyed the tour, we didn't have good customer service and wouldn't book with him again. We were at the pier 15 min early, but we knew from on here that he'd be right on time or even a bit late. Well you can imagine how surprised we were to find Sunny (the other tour company recommended on here) asking us who we were waiting for, when we told him, he said our names and we were to go with him. Godfrey never informed us of this, but we figured since he had our names, we will go. Then he told us to pay him and him and Godfrey would work it out. We did (luckily it turned out fine as apparently they work together at times when ports are busy).

Bottom line is we were switched bus to bus four times throughout the tour. First Sunny, then after shopping, we were with one of Godfrey's employees and she was pleasant, Godfrey had 3 buses running that day. We were there 5 minutes before noon (when we were supposed to be there) and some random guy came up to us asking our names then escorted us to this woman driver since the other buses already left. We'd then met up with the tour and Godfrey was informative. Then after the beach, we went with Godfrey (3rd switch) only to be switched to another driver/company on the way back (4th time) who we never heard of to drive us back to the ship.

It all was very shady. I wouldn't recommend Godfrey unless you don't mind the lack of customer service. He is informative and we did enjoy the tour, but too many times through it did we feel shady business practices were going on.

Sounds like they're ALL shady.

Just speculating here, but it might be common for other tour guides to approach tourists standing around waiting and say, "Hey, you're supposed to come with me." Extra money for them if they can 'steal' you away.
