Karkies25 Posted February 20, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 20, 2008 Sorry if this has been posted before, I did do a search. :) Can you please advise if Princess provides a shuttle bus from port to town? If so, how much does it cost? Thanks! Happy Travels!
sddsddean Posted February 20, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 20, 2008 They did when we were there, but it was quite pricey (can't remember how much!), compared to walking about 200 yds from the dock gate and getting the local bus. Simon
Karkies25 Posted February 20, 2008 Author #3 Share Posted February 20, 2008 Thanks Simon, Anyone else have ideas on the cost? The local/public bus sounds good too
photorere Posted February 20, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 20, 2008 I think it was $10 round trip. The lines for the buses coming back to port were very long. We left early to avoid the rush (2:30) but it was already long when we got there. They only had 2 buses which didn't help. Finally got the second bus around 3...it's a 15 minute ride back to port. angelwingsflys Posted February 21, 2008 #5 Share Posted February 21, 2008 Hi, we were on Princess around NZ last month, the price was $6 each way per person, but you can catch the free shuttle ( the port supplies) it drops you into the working port town , then catch the local bus into Christchuch, Bus 28, cost $2.50 each way, we also had a ride around Christchuch on their FREE shuttle hop on hop off. well worth doing. We just went around once then got off where we wanted to . ( the free shuttle is well sign posted.) Bus 28 to come back ,value Hope that is a help. Deb

whynotnow Posted February 22, 2008 #7 Share Posted February 22, 2008 Does the free shuttle hop on/off in Christchurch take you to the International Artic Centre or Botanic Gardens? We were going to purchase the bus day pass ($10.NZ), but if the free shuttle goes to the Centre and Gardens, then that's great for us. Thank you. Thank you. we caught the $5 bus to the airport which is just near the Artic centre It will drop you there(caught in the main town square), It is quite a distance from the town, the botanical gardens we walked to, you can see the botanical garden enterance from the main square,it is about good 10 min walk, but you can get a tram to it ,don't know the price of tram think it was around $14 approx. If you walk to the botanical gardens there is a lot to see on way including the punt on the river that goes thru the middle of town.very intersting. Hope that helps Deb
Budget Queen Posted February 23, 2008 #9 Share Posted February 23, 2008 Does the free shuttle hop on/off in Christchurch take you to the International Artic Centre or Botanic Gardens? The shuttle bus takes you outside of the dock gates to near the CITY bus stop that takes you into Christchurch, they are no where near each other. For the Antarctic Center, (it's not the Arctic) you get off at the transportation center downtown and switch over to the Airport bus, at the same stop. Tell the driver you want to get off there, they don't stop otherwise. Upon return, be sure to flag the driver, they don't stop automatically either. Purchase the 10 all day pass. If you have time the gondola is also a worthwhile stop.
