drjdm Posted February 22, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 22, 2008 Does the ship tender at Cooks Bay? Thanks jeff
Fore67 Posted February 22, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 22, 2008 For the most part it does. I have heard that every once in a while it doesn't and I don't know the protocol, maybe other ships get there first. Both times I went, we were in Cook's bay and it was unbelievable! Hope you get that splendid sight! All the best, Mike PG 2001, 2004
azgkrudi Posted February 22, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 22, 2008 Our first time, we anchored at Cook's Bay. Our recent New Year's cruise, we anchored at Opunohu. I *HOPE* you end up at Cook's Bay. There was just nothing to do at Opunohu, and we were pretty disappointed that we had to take a cab to Cook's Bay for shopping, etc. (it is definitely NOT walkable). The pearl cabs will be willing to take you to Cook's Bay for free, but you can't go anywhere but where their pearl shops are. On the other hand, when we sailed out of Opunohu, our views were incredible - much better than Cook's. So there's always a silver lining in the cloud!!! Wendy The Wanderer Posted February 22, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 22, 2008 On the other hand, Oponohu Bay is spectacularly beautiful. We have anchored there a couple of times, and there were lots of booths set up with local crafts and jewellery. There were also the usual shuttle buses to the pearl shops. So we actually preferred it. Go figure.
dougburns Posted February 22, 2008 #5 Share Posted February 22, 2008 When we were there in '03 PG spent 1 day in each bay; both tendered.
Cruising Librarian Posted February 22, 2008 #6 Share Posted February 22, 2008 We anchored both times in Opunohu Bay. Glad to hear there's a chance we might anchor in Cooks Bay on our next trip in September!
drjdm Posted February 23, 2008 Author #7 Share Posted February 23, 2008 Thanks for the feedback, We are trying to rent a car it would be nice to know which spot we anchor. I suspect there will be cars availble in both spots. Jeff
