Captain Rhone Posted February 23, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2008 I've noticed while browsing the web that Celebrity have been working on adding "Celebrity" to the Century, Galaxy, and Mercury. The Century in the most recent photo that I've seen, only has "Century" painted in white. The Galaxy, however has the whole "Celebrity GALAXY" painted up front as well as on the stern. The Mercury is nameless except I think they may have painted it on the stern. marinearchit Posted February 23, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 23, 2008 When I was on the Century, they were painting over the name on the Port side of the ship.
Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted February 23, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 23, 2008 A picture from our 2/14 sailing shows a large "CENTURY" with a much smaller CENTURY forward of that, with a MUCH smaller "CELEBRITY" in front of it... Sorry for the HUGE photo here, but it's the only way to make out "CELEBRITY"! Tom

nps001 Posted February 23, 2008 #6 Share Posted February 23, 2008 SeaIslandLady--I especially love the second pic. It almost looks like the hull is an ice blue.

I wonder what all this renaming is about? Are the ships being reflagged or is this an attempt to keep the ships from being confused with other lines' ships, as the names get re-used? Hi Captain Rhone ! I was told a while ago, this is a very slight rebranding project. Celebrity wants to get their name out into the mainstream as much as possible. Eventually, every ship will have the Celebrity name in front of the Ship's name. They already have it planned for Solstice. Carnival started doing this a while ago, and I expect every cruiseline to do this in the near future. It's more free advertising for them.
signman Posted February 24, 2008 #10 Share Posted February 24, 2008 My understanding that the name change has to do with the reflaging to Malta. Now the Captains of the ship will be able to perform weddings at sea.
ocngypz Posted February 24, 2008 #11 Share Posted February 24, 2008 Two reasons: Brand recognition No confusion over names. The reflagging was to lower operating costs.
