live from Vision- smoking update

Recommended Posts

Live from the Vision.... just a quick note about smoking.

As of this week you can no longer smoke in the schooner bar. the only places indoors to smoke are the Viking Crown lounge (where the cigar smoking is) and the Casino (except for the 2 designated non smoking nights- formal nights).

Having a good time but it's frigging cold!

Wow, that is very good news; hopefully this will become a trend fleet wide. It would be a welcome change for many.

Thanks for the update and have a great cruise; hopefully it'll warm up for you. :)

There have been many, many complaints about the Schooner Bar on the Vision - it was really bad. Thank you for the news! I'll be able to go there, now.

My guess is that the Some Enchanted Evening Lounge still has a smoking section, and it is right by the Schooner Bar, but it is a much more open space, and the smoke isn't as annoying there. So, that would be another venue that they could smoke in.

Hopefully cigar smoking won't be allowed in the VCL when the night-time parties start around 11!

Great, great news! (no smoking in schooner)

Was it cold in the ports? Thought the weather showed warm weather. We are boarding next Sunday so feel free to send more info if you can!

The last sea day is always cold and rocky - just don't plan to suntan that day!;)

When I was on the Monarch in January, Captain Karin said that the Schooner Bar was the designated NON smoking lounge on all the ships. I'm glad that's the one they chose, because you have to walk through it to get to the Safari Club on the Radiance class ships.

Yes, but. . . I was on Explorer in February, and the Schooner Bar was non-smoking, but big deal: the casino is next door, and people walking through would stop to listen to the piano. We found it very smoky. . .don't like smoke. (Reformed ex-smoker, of course)

But it's nice that they are trying! You sure can't please everyone.

Where were you when you were posting that it was cold. I hope your temps improve for you.

BTW - Thanks for the update.

It's the last day, and the OP is heading up the Baha. Really, as soon as you get north of Cabo, it gets cool and rocky. I'm used to it - done it 3 times. There is nothing happening on the pool deck that day!

Thank-you so much. The news that more areas are now Smoke-Free is music to my ears.

I ended up so sick on our TA on the Legend because of all the smoke. I can't wait to have a Happier and Healthier cruise on Rhapsody in May & December.

Thanks again.

Sounds good. A negative of cruising is the smoke. I'm all for designated smoking areas, but those areas should not infringe on the other areas that are not. We're booked on the Explorer a year from now and if they do not address the issues we've seen on CC (ie: smoke making its way up to the Pomenade) we will have to consider canceling out booking.

Does anyone know about smoking on AOS? We are going on our first cruise this summer and I completely forgot about the smoking issue because it has been so long since I have been around cigarette smoke!:) The restaurants around here simply just don't allow it and haven't for years. Where do they allow it on AOS? Please let me know so my family and I can avoid those places. Also, do the cabins smell bad because of all the years smoking has been allowed there? Thanks.

Now I'm getting different info about the smoking areas. "smoking is allowed anywhere in public areas on port side and on balconies". So I'm not sure. If anyone has recently been on AOS and can give me an update I'd appreciate it. Thanks

From what I have been told, there are smoking areas through out the ship and only one bar or lounge is totally smoke free. On Rhapsody it is supposed to be the Champange Bar. But it is also up to each captian of the ship.

My apologies for taking so long to reply.

This was the policy as we understood it before we left but it was not the case.

As a smoker, I agree that the Shooner bar is a bad location for designated smoking as most people walk through there to get to the 'Some Enchanted Evening Lounge'. You can get there by going through the Showboat lounge but it takes you a bit off path.

I understand most people on these boards are non-smokers and i have no interest on debating the negative effects of smoking, I just wanted to let you all know about the change that took place when we got there.

About the weather. It was VERY nice in port but really cool when the ship was moving especially in the evenings (much much cooler than the caribbean). So for you smokers out there, bring a jacket or a nice wrap to go with your formal wear to keep you warm while you're outside.

On Rhapsody, a year ago, smoking was allowed on all balconies and outside areas on the port side of the ship, in the casino, and in designated areas of most bars...The Moonlight Bay lounge and the champagne bar were non-smoking as were all outside areas on the starboard side of the ship, the theater is non smoking as well as all other inside areas such as the promenade and dining rooms...when the ship is in motion, smoke getting into other areas of the ship is basically a non-existent factor...in port, smoke might drift from balconies...as a non-smoker married to a smoker, I can see both sides...you cannot please everyone, nor should anyone be completely denied their rights to choose...I think RCCL does a good job of balancing the two....Jimmy

I have a sensitive nose and have not smelt smoke in the cabins, they have been balcony cabins though.

What??? And from where did you get that information?

Perhaps the smokers are just less verbal.
