rbden Posted March 7, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 7, 2008 Sailing on the Glory on April 12th. Previous cruise on Carnvial back in 1999. We had booked a balcony on empress and today got a call that they upgraded us to a suite at no charge on the empress deck. HAve been a loyal RCCL cruiser..6 in a row, never an upgrade. Wow for the price i cannot believe it. anyone esle find this happens often. Thank You Carnival..you are making me a convert.:D
firefly333 Posted March 7, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 7, 2008 Suite .... errr I mean sweet upgrade!!! Hope you enjoy it. You get VIP boarding and to go to the front of the line. Usually it seems like those who say they got upgraded would rather have their 9A aft wrap arounds or it was an upgrade from a balcony they didnt want to give up. Glad you got a nice upgrade from a guarantee :)
MarylandLady Posted March 7, 2008 #3 Share Posted March 7, 2008 The only time I've been upgraded was on the Glory also -- the Inaugural cruise! I had booked a balcony guarantee and when my docs came, I had a suite. Very nice!!! Have a great time and congrats on the upgrade -- you will love it! rbden Posted March 7, 2008 Author #6 Share Posted March 7, 2008 We booked an outside balcony, not a gauranteed. Whatever happened, I thank my lucky stars. Hope the upgrade fairy visits you all on your next cruise!

CruisinJul Posted March 7, 2008 #8 Share Posted March 7, 2008 A couple of years ago we booked a balcony on Royal Carribean and we were upgraded to a junior suite. This was are first cruise with them. It was a repo cruise with four sea days so it was a good cruise to have the larger cabin!
KtBarker Posted March 7, 2008 #9 Share Posted March 7, 2008 On our Nov cruise on the Destiny our tablemates had been upgraded from a non-aft balcony to a suite. It was their first cruise. I was a little disappointed the same hadn't happened for us as repeat guests, but I guess it could be Carnival's way of making them returning cruisers, which we already were. Prairie_Gal Posted March 7, 2008 #10 Share Posted March 7, 2008 The same thing happened to us on our first cruise last December. We had two balcony cabins booked, and they both got upgraded to suites. :D
sunlover5 Posted March 7, 2008 #11 Share Posted March 7, 2008 That would be my nightmare....next week having our first aft balcony and they would upgrade us to a suite. DH says no way.....we would keep the aft!!!
gr82cruz Posted March 7, 2008 #12 Share Posted March 7, 2008 I'm sooo jealous. I will be on the same cruise, but I paid for a suite. I'll look for you on the Empress deck. You'll be the one with the huge smile and an extra spring in your step!! Good for you.
Marie51 Posted March 7, 2008 #13 Share Posted March 7, 2008 I have been on 23 cruises on a number of different lines and have only been upgraded one time............on a RC cruise we booked an oceanview and got a balcony. I always choose my own cabin.
cruisnpat Posted March 7, 2008 #14 Share Posted March 7, 2008 Congratulations on your upgrade. Wish I could be so lucky. We booked and inside guarantee for our upcomeing cruise in April and that is what we got an inside room on deck1  No upgrade for us.
Magic City Cruiser Posted March 7, 2008 #15 Share Posted March 7, 2008 I think maybe upgrades happen because someone wants your particular room or maybe they want 2 rooms next to each other. I'm not sure if it's a "reward" for anything you've done as far as previous cruising! Donna
Kurbanfan Posted March 7, 2008 #16 Share Posted March 7, 2008 Congratulations! Apparantly the cruise is not sold out and they can sell a balcony cabin easier then a suite so they upgraded you. Regardless it is a sweet deal for you.

bonniemari Posted March 8, 2008 #18 Share Posted March 8, 2008 Trust me this is how they hook you on the suites. Happened to us in Sept 2001 on the Victory cruise to Canada and we have been hooked on suites ever since. Have a great cruise and enjoy that sweet suite. Kudos2Fly Posted March 9, 2008 #20 Share Posted March 9, 2008 We are going on a group cruise (family) and some of us have guarantee balconies, but I don't think I'll hold my breath on getting an upgrade... I have never gotten an upgrade worth talking about.. But I haven't been on the newer ships either.. I hope you enjoy you upgrade because I would... TCF Posted March 9, 2008 #21 Share Posted March 9, 2008 To be perfectly honest folks I think an upgrade to a suite on Carnival is a rare event...so if you have had one consider yourself lucky! Carnival ships generally do not have a lot of suites so they are snapped up pretty quickly. Also...unlike the other lines...the prices on Carnival suites are not exhorbident by any stretch...so they tend to sell quickly! They don't need to give them away! nycruise1 Posted March 9, 2008 #22 Share Posted March 9, 2008 bonniemari, We were also on a Sept 2001 Victory cruise to Canada and were upgraded from an inside guarantee to a balcony on Empress. I had called that morning or the day before to know our room for the luggage tags and we had been pushed up to a balcony on Upper, but when we got to the port, they had pushed us once again. This was right after the attacks and many people had canceled. We sailed on the 29th, and had to leave out of Boston as the NY port was closed for months. Which week did you sail? Same cruise-we were upgraded from a 9a to Cat 11. They had so many cancellations they ran an ad in the paper for cheap cruises ($199) and just moved everyone up from what we were told. We didn't find out til we got to the check in. I was kind of bummed at first but now we are hooked on Cat 11-I love having the bathtub.
