Just got a call from NCL regarding our Gem cruise on May 25th!! They offered me an upgrade from a BD Balcony on deck 8 - to a AF mini-suite on deck 11. $300.00 Total price. I feel it was a good deal. What do you think? So, what do you get with a mini suite? lol. I forgot to ask. I guess I need to go visit the NCL website!!

Deck 11 is closer to the action-pool, buffett and bar! Do you know if you are going from port side to starboard side, mid to aft or forward or visa versa?

We took it, and went from Deck 8 forward, starboard to deck 11 mid, starboard.

The 2.0 upgrades for the suites look pretty cool:) I am envious! I would love to have the bath tub and pillow menu. I hope we get the call, we are currently in a BB balcony on deck 9.

Congrats on your upsell!

Keep in mind that the AF is a mini-suite and does not get most of the perks that full suites get. You do get a bit more room in the cabin, but that is pretty much it.

For a long list of FAQs for sailing on NCL, click here.

We've had an AF once and for 3 it was far more comfortable than a BA, because the sofa bed collapsed flat more like a full bed and didn't restrict walking area to the balcony, as in a BA.

The only thing I found confined was getting to the main closet, because it opens on one side of the bed, instead of in the "hall" area of the cabin.

There's more sq. ft., with a curtain to separate the sitting area from the main bed area.

The bathroom is a bit bigger, with a bathtub/shower combination.

2.0 may not include ALL the perks, but it does give a bit more:

Balcony and Mini Suites, all of the above plus:

  • Bathrobes;
  • Customized Fruit Menu;
  • Fresh-baked cookie at turn down on last night of cruise;
  • Escort to stateroom on embarkation day;
  • Special color keycard;
  • Priority Restaurant Reservation and Reception hotlines.
