cruiserking Posted March 19, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 19, 2008 What exactly is it? What goes on and how long does it last? Do early and late diners have seperate parties? Yes, there are two gatherings one for early and one for late. Basically, all of the passengers have a chance to meet the captain and pose for a picture with him on the way into the ballroom or lounge the event is taking place in. There is usually comp champagne and hors doeuvres on hand. After everyone has mingled for a bit, the captain will say a few words and tell an anecdote or two and then proceed to introduce the other high level officers aboard ship. It's a special night as everyone is dressed up in their finery. It's a very unique affair as this type of event is a traditional part of ocean liner travel and does not occur anywhere else. cruisinbuddy Posted March 19, 2008 #3 Share Posted March 19, 2008 The Captains reception is a "party" to welcome guests aboard. There usually are two of them, one for each seating on the 1st formal night. It usually lasts @ an hour and the drinks are free. The Captain usually says a few words, and welcomes you on board. On some ships you can have your pic taken with the Captain.
bamn Posted March 19, 2008 Author #4 Share Posted March 19, 2008 OK thanks - do they only let you attend if you are dressed formal?
cruiserking Posted March 20, 2008 #5 Share Posted March 20, 2008 OK thanks - do they only let you attend if you are dressed formal? All of the passengers will be dolled up on this night, it's nicer to blend in with everyone and look your best. I don't think you would feel comfortable posing for a picture with the captain unless you had some of your finest duds on. Jonathan
cb at sea Posted March 20, 2008 #6 Share Posted March 20, 2008 If you don't like the drinks they're handing out at the door, there will be an "open" bar somewhere in the space, so you can get the drink of your choice! (Not everyone knows that!!!) No "top-shelf" liquor, but still...
musictchr45 Posted March 24, 2008 #7 Share Posted March 24, 2008 Do ask someone to point you in the direction of the open bar, or is it left up to you to stumble across it?
