MikePowers Posted March 20, 2008 #1 Share Posted March 20, 2008 A very dear couple and friends of ours are wondering if there is any popular cruise line where her husband who is 7 feet 2 inches call could enjoy a cruise without banging his head through out a ship. They also have concerns about the height of a cabin as well as the shower and toilet area. Does anyone have any suggestions and cruise lines for them to consider? VentureMan_2000 Posted March 20, 2008 #2 Share Posted March 20, 2008 Tough questions... I think all the ceilings are about 7 feet high.

cubsfan2008 Posted March 20, 2008 #4 Share Posted March 20, 2008 Hi, I am 6'6 and i really didnt notice the ceilings too much. I know the doorways in the hallways seem low, felt as though I had to duck under each one. The shower is a bit small, the shower head is positioned to where I need to bend over to get my head wet otherwise its a nipple down shower. I think you should call carnival directly and ask the height of the celings in both the hallways and cabins. I know there are raised ceilings in the casino ect. Good Luck

This guy's got 8 inches on you. If your shower was a nipple down, his may be classified as a bidet. LOL :D
cubsfan2008 Posted March 20, 2008 #6 Share Posted March 20, 2008 Frog- LoL I know. I was just trying to give them some perspective. I dont see a problem with him going. I will give one bit of advice. While watching shows in the theatre, be sure to get upper deck seating as the little drink tables on the first level are too low to allow our legs to fit under them. marktac Posted March 20, 2008 #7 Share Posted March 20, 2008 I suspect he will have the same "problems" that he has in everyday life. Doors are usually 6'-8" high, ceilings in corridors and cabins are 7'-6" to 8' high, showers are usually 6' high. Beds are always too short....I'm only 6' and I hang off the end. If he adapts in the day-to-day stuff, he can adapt on board a ship. Go for it, and have fun.
falconfan Posted March 20, 2008 #8 Share Posted March 20, 2008 I am 6'7" and have not been on a Carnival ship yet. I have been on Disney and RCCL. Both of those showers were nice because they were tall. However, the shower stalls are short. My head was rubbing against the top of the shower stall on RCCL. The toilets are low too. The rest of the both ships I found myself ducking through the doorways. Dining was good though, I was comfortable in the dining room for meals. truecruiser Posted March 20, 2008 #9 Share Posted March 20, 2008 poor guy. he probably has trouble everywhere. he will hopefully fit in the standup bathroom shower. if the cabin has a tub, then no. if he has trouble, tell him to check out the showers in the gym. see if they provide more headroom. good luck. Kurbanfan Posted March 20, 2008 #10 Share Posted March 20, 2008 That's a good question. I will have to go ask our neighbor across the street. He is 7' (x NBA player) I know his wife has been on several cruises but not with him. Hmmmm that may be the reason lol!
winewanderer Posted March 20, 2008 #11 Share Posted March 20, 2008 My hubby is 6'5". The cabin showers are too short for him. One way around that is we go to the gym in the morning and use the showers in the spa. Much roomier and much taller. I like the spa showers bette too. Your friend may have to duck at times like going through the cabin door. Also, make sure he watches out going down the stairs. At the bottom of a set of stairs is I guess you would maybe call it a post. Anyway, my hubby's head isn't that far from it. Other than those times I think overall it won't be too much of an issue. The rest of the ship is so open. I suppose you could call the cruise line and ask someone there about the specific ship you're considering, they may be able to give you height specifics. I don't think that he will have major problems, however, in general (not only with Carnival but other cruise lines), the newer ships have higher ceilings and more spacious accomodations. With that in mind look for the newest ships, and at least for Carnival, consider the ocean view cabins since these are larger than the inside cabins on the newer ships (Destiny and newer).
